JWST Community Lecture Series - IFU Spectroscopy with the James Webb Space Telescope (D. Law)

Tue 1 Nov 2016
Location:

Baltimore STScI Muller Boardroom

Time:

11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Description:

Integral-field unit (IFU) spectrographs are becoming common tools for major astronomical facilities, and have begun to open new scientific regimes to study through spatially resolved spectroscopy.  JWST will include two such instruments (as part of MIRI and NIRSpec) that will jointly cover the entire wavelength range from 0.6 - 28 microns at moderate spectral resolution.  I will review the design and performance of these IFUs and highlight key considerations for science programs that intend to use these observing modes.
