Cepheids in M100 Installation Instructions for Windows compatible PC's. ------------------------------------ Hardware & Software Requirements 1. QuickTime for Windows 1.1 (or newer) installed on your hard disk; 2. A SoundBlaster Compatible sound card (Will work without one) 3. SuperVGA display card & Monitor set to 640x480 at 256 colors 4. Windows 3.1 or later 5. A hard disk with at least 8 MB of free space for the Electronic Tutorial. 6. At least an 80386 microprocessor (486 recommended) ---------------------------------- Installation Instructions: After downloading the appropriate files, follow the instructions below: Step 1: Create a directory on your hard disk for the "Cepheids in M100" program & files. Call the directory "M100" Step 2: Copy the file "M100WIN.EXE" that you downloaded into the "M100" directory that was just created. Step 3: Make the "M100" directory the default directory by issuing the command: CD M100 Step 4: Begin the unzipping process by issuing the command: M100 -d ******* It is very important that "-d" parameter is included!!! This will ensure all subdirectories be unzipped as well as files ******* All of the files will begin to be unzipped into the "M100" directory of your hard disk. Decision: Once the "Cepheids in M100" files have been unzipped into the "M100" directory of your hard disk. You may now have to install Quicktime for Windows 1.1.1. You need only install this software if you do not have QuickTime for Windows installed on your hard disk, or you have an ealier version of QuickTime for Windows (prior to 1.1.1). If you already have QuickTime for Windows 1.1.1 or newer installed on your hard disk, you can skip to "Now That You Have It Installed...". If not, proceed to the next section, "Installing QuickTime for Windows 1.1.1" --------------------------------------- Installing QuickTime for Windows 1.1.1: To install QuickTime for Windows 1.1.1, you must first have downloaded the "QTW111.EXE" file. Step 1: Create a directory for the QuickTime for Windows Self-Expanding Archives. Call it "QTWINST" Step 2: Copy the "QTW111.EXE" file that you downloaded into the "QTWINST" directory that was just created. Step 3: Begin the unzipping process by issuing the command: QTW111 Two files entiltled "DISK1.EXE" and "DISK2.EXE" should have been successfully unzipped into the "QTWINST" directory of your hard disk. Step 5: Insert a blank High Density (1.44Mb) floppy disk into drive "A:" Step 6: Unzip the contents of "DISK1.EXE" onto the floppy disk by issuing the command: DISK1 A: -d ******* It is very important that "-d" parameter is included!!! This will ensure all subdirectories be unzipped as well as files ******* Step 7: When the unzipping process of DISK1.EXE is complete, eject the floppy disk in drive "A:" Step 8: Repeat steps 6 and 7 with a new, blank floppy and the file DISK2.EXE. Step 9: Insert the QTW Disk 1 floppy disk that was created in steps 6 & 7 in to drive "A:" Step 10: Launch Windows 3.1 Step 11: From the File Manager, pull down the FILE menu and select RUN. Enter the command: a:\setup.exe This starts the QuickTime for Windows installer. Follow the onscreen instructions. NOTE: The QuickTime software may be used only upon conditions stated in the Software License that appears below. Do not download the QuickTime software unless you read and agree to the terms of the Software License. ------------------------------------ Now That You Have It Installed: Once "Cepheids in M100" and QuickTime 1.1.1 (if necessary) have been installed, you are now ready to run Cepheids in M100! To do this, from within the Windows File Manager simply navigate to the "M100" directory of your hard disk. Once inside the directory, just double click on the "PROGRAM.EXE" file.
