Endeavour Views the Earth Many of us dream of Òseeing the world,Ó but few of us ever expect to see it as an astronaut doesÑfrom space. Thus, it is a special treat to travel along in our imaginations with Dr. Jay Apt as he takes us on a world tour from an astronautÕs perspective. With lively commentary on photographs taken by the crew of the U.S. Space Shuttle fleetÕs 50th journey into space, Flight Engineer Jay Apt continues a tradition begun with the Apollo astronauts of relaying warmly and intelligently this unique perspective of our home from space. In doing so, he conveys the essence of all of our nationÕs best and bravest space explorers: their adventurous spirit, historical interest, scientific knowledge, and visionary skills. The ÒEndeavour Views the EarthÓ Electronic PictureBook contains a total of 40 full-color images of Earth. Captions accompanying the images describe the location in latitude and longitude of the areas being viewed, as well as their importance in geographical, geological, environmental, and social terms. Maps of the various areas highlighted and CIA's The World Factbook, containing background information on the worldÕs people, culture, geography, history, government, economy, political conditions, and a country map, are included. --------------------------------------------------------------- Electronic PictureBooks are HyperCard¨ stacks designed to run on a color Macintosh¨ computer with at least 2.5 megabytes of available RAM, sufficient hard disk space to contain the Electronic Picturebook, System 7.0, and HyperCard 2.1 or HyperCard Player 2.1. This Electronic PictureBook is one of a series being produced by the Exploration in Education (ExInEd) program at the Special Studies Office of the Space Telescope Science Institute (ST ScI). The purpose of the ExInEd program is to discover new tools and approaches to relate space science and exploration to basic teaching and learning, and it involves searching for new ways to assemble and distribute the results of research, particularly images.
