A figure is shown for each command menu that you may encounter in STARCAT, followed by a table explaining what each command does. Banner Commands When you first log in to STARCAT you will be in the banner screen and will see the menu shown in Figure 8.1. Note that some of the commands in this menu do not pertain to the STARCAT implementation currently used at STScI. Figure 8.2 shows a menu of commands that work in the top-level and its sublevel menu screens. The most important of these commands are explained in detail in Chapter 4 and Chapter 7. Table 8.3 briefly explains each command. When you are finished, you can write out a list of the data set names, or you can retrieve data. The Retrieve menu shown in Figure 8.4 is encountered when you invoke the Retrieve command () from a menu screen. The retrieval process is explained on page 31. When you use table format, the following command menu will appear. Most of these commands are the same as on normal data screens (page 106), but some additional commands are available, and are described in Table 8.5. Your output file will contain the contents of the selected fields from all marked records and can be written in any of several formats. See "Using Output Files" on page 94.
