HST Data Handbook The "HST Data Handbook" describes HST datasets produced by any instrument. It includes information about how to read and understand the files on a tape, how to determine if the data should be recalibrated, how to understand potential problems with the data, and how to solve these problems. Information is provided explaining how to use StarView, STSDAS, and STEIS to work with HST data. This directory contains files for printing or displaying the "HST Data Handbook". The current version is dated December 1995 and the files have modification dates of January 15, 1996. The PostScript version consists of nine consecutively-numbered files. A browsable web version is also available. Printed copies can be requested through the STScI Help Desk (e-mail help@stsci.edu). Files in this directory are: 00_contents.ps - Table of contents and preface explaining how to use the manual. (148 KB) 01_general.ps - Chapters on data tape contents, using IRAF and STSDAS for data analysis, using the HST archive, using the STEIS information server, and using OMS files. (14.9 MB) 02_foc.ps - Chapters on understanding and working with Faint Object Camera data. (8.3 MB) 03_fos.ps - Chapters on Faint Object Spectrograph data. (5.0 MB) 04_fgs.ps - Chapters on Fine Guidance Sensor data. (4.4 MB) 05_ghrs.ps - Chapters on Goddard High Resolution Spectrograph data. (2.0 MB) 06_hsp.ps - Chapters on High Speed Photometer data. (630 KB) 07_wfpc.ps - Chapters on Wide Field/Planetary Camera-1 data. (2.6 MB) 08_wfpc2.ps - Chapters on Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 data. (3.9 MB) 09_index.ps - Glossary and index. (133 KB) Working with the files: ======================= As you can see from the file sizes listed above, many of the PostScript files are very large. Most of the chapters contain numerous graphics, images, and other matter that contributes to large files. If your PostScript printer or your system's printer spool area lack memory, you may have problems printing the files. If this is the case, please request a printed copy by sending e-mail to help@stsci.edu or try using the world wide web version.
