observer/README

  The Observer directory contains several subdirectories with 
information that is most relevant to proposers who have accepted 
proposals "in the queue" (i.e. - science programs at some stage of processing). 
Because of the nature of space observations, all schedules posted here are
subject to change. 

FILES:

frequently_asked_questions  -  a compilation of answers to some of the most
                               commonly asked questions.

go_list, gto_list	    -  lists accepted go and gto programs; shows
				PEPSI ID, title and PI name.

README.questions            -  a very brief README file for the frequently_
                               asked_questions.

SUBDIRECTORIES:
catalogs                     - contains some atlases and other data 
                               relevant to HST observations (see below).

completed_observations       - comp_obs_mm_dd_yy contains information on 
                               science observations indexed by proposal 
                               type and ID number.  Also contains program 
                               title, a rough indication of the data quality, 
                               target name, and the weekly SMS in which the 
                               observation was scheduled. This report covers 
                               data taken by the science assessment and 
                               early release observations programs, and GTO 
                               and GO programs.  

                               also contains the Archived Exposures Catalog
                               and the weekly summaries.

long_range_plan              - lists program ID number, title and target
                               by weekly SMS for up to two months in advance.

may_symposium                - Tex and Latex templates for papers in the
                               proceedings of the STScI May symposium.
                         
temp                         - a temporary directory for reference files.

weekly_timeline              - derived from an internal ST ScI report 
                               produced by the Operations Division, this 
                               report contains a fairly large amount of 
                               detail for all observations (science, 
                               calibration, and engineering) scheduled for 
                               the designated week, including begin/end times, 
                               principal investigator, target, instrument 
                               mode, filters, apertures, etc.

AEC.CATALOG                 - ASCII file containing a summary of observations
                              in the HST archive. includes target name, 
                              position, instrument, and release date
