HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #872 PERIOD COVERED: 0800 EST Daily Status Report as of 113/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WFC 4105 (HST Medium Deep Survey: Cycle 1 High Latitude) The Wide Field Camera was used to make one high latitude survey image taken in parallel with the prime science observation. The image was reported to look satisfactory. 1.2 Completed FOC/96 4804 (UV Imaging of Nearby Galaxies with FOC/96) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make two single ultraviolet images of nearby galaxies UGC-5840 and ESO-0910-2. The first observation was reported to be well exposed, however, a recentering event was reported to has lasted for 12 seconds during the exposure. The second observation was reported to have low counts. 1.3 Completed GHRS/2 3664 (Probing the Gas of the Super Bubble LMC2) The High Resolution Spectrograph was used to make spectral observations of OB class star SK69290 which is located in Superbubble #2 in the large Magellanic cloud. It is known to have an expanding shell of hot gas which is moving outward through the interstellar medium. Ten observations were received and displayed in the OSS. The target acquisition was successful, and the spectra was reported to look noisy. 1.4 Completed HSP/UV1 4807 (Variable and Ultraviolet Light Curves of Short Period RR Lyrae-Type Stars) The High Speed Photometer was used to look for short term fluctuations in the light curve of RR Lyrae class star AI Velorum. Two observations were received and displayed in real-time. The first observation showed the target near the edge of the aperture, and the second was well centered. 1.5 Completed WFC 1306 (GTO Low Latitude Parallel Program) The Wide Field Camera was used to make some low latitude long duration exposures take in parallel with the prime science observations. The observations were executed as scheduled, and monitored in the OSS. No problems were reported. 1.6 Completed FOS 4054 (Probing of the Nuclear Regions of Seyfert Galaxy NGC-5548) The Faint Object Spectrograph was used to make spectral observations of the nuclear regions of galaxy NGC-5548 to study time variability if its continuum, and emission line of Helium II and Carbon IV.
