HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #909 PERIOD COVERED: 0800 EST Daily Status Report as of 167/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: Resumed Science SMS at 167/0000Z (Recovery from HST Inertial Hold Safemode). All the SIs are recovered. 1.1 Completed GHRS/2 3737 (The Onset of Chromospheric Activity) The High Resolution Spectrograph was used to attempt to make four high resolution spectral observations of the area around the Carbon II resonance lines at 1335 A0 in A class star HD18978. Due to an FGS#2 engineering test, these was a loss of lock. This loss of lock caused a time out before the completion of observation #4, generating a status buffer error message. 1.2 Completed HSP/VIS 4209 (HSP Detector Sensitivity Test) The High Speed Photometer was used to make sensitivity calibration measurements of its IDT detectors by making observations of standard calibration star VID998. The observations were monitored in the OSS, and the data quality was assessed. No problems were reported. 1.3 Completed WFC 4277 (Calibration of Nearby Galaxy Type IA Super novae as Standard Candles) The Wide Field Camera was used to make observations of Cepheid variable stars located inside of galaxy NGC-5253. This is to help determine the accurate distance to this galaxy. This distance will be used to find the true luminosity of the type-Ia supernova which has been observed in this galaxy. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 4 Successful : 4 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 3 Successful : 3 Losses of Lock : 0 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 6 Successful : 6 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Note: Interception of the science SMS (i.e., SMS-167) was successfully completed as scheduled at 167/0000Z.
