HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #948 PERIOD COVERED: 0800 EST Daily Status Report as of 223/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Two Sets of WFC 4666 (The Jets of Centaurus A and Its Host Galaxies - Cycle 3 Medium) The Wide Field Camera was used to make 12 ultraviolet and polarized light observations of KNOT-A on the inner jet of Centaurus A (aka, NGC-5128). This is to make comparisons to sub-arcsecond structure found in radio maps and to make observations at other wave lengths to determine the physical processes going on in the jet. All of the observations were received and displayed. They were reported to look very good. 1.2 Completed Four Sets of PC 4714 (WF/PC Cycle 2 Calibration: PC Internal Delta Flats) The Faint Object Camera was used to make one internal flat calibration image which will be used for the restoration of Earth flat images, which were altered due to changes in quantum efficiency which occurred after decontamination operations. The observations was received and displayed in the OSS. It was reported to look okay. 1.3 Completed FGS 4892 (Duplicity Among Hyades Stars - Cycle 3 High) The FGSs were used to make astrometric observations of the possible binary star VA537 which is located in the Hyades open cluster. The OSS monitored the observation, and no anomalies were reported. 1.4 Completed WFC 5013 (WF/PC Cycle 3 Calibration: WFC Flats Narrow. 2) The Wide Field Camera was used to make Earth flat calibration images to be used for flat fielding of WFC observations. The observations used the narrow band filters, both with and without neutral density filters. A total of two observations were received. One observation was reported to be saturated, and the other were okay. 1.5 Completed GHRS/1 3845 (Deciphering the UV Emission Lines in the T Tauri Systems) The High Resolution Spectrograph was used to make eight ultraviolet spectral observations of the T-Tauri class star RW-Aurigae to study the width and shape of its emission lines which will put constraints on the type of mechanism producing these lines. One wavelength calibrations and eight spectral observations were received and displayed. The spectral observations were reported to look fine. 1.6 Completed PC 4140 (WF/PC Cycle 2 Calibration: Rapid Internal Monitor - Part 2) The WFPC was used to make two internal flat calibrations images to check for new forms of contamination (i.e., Daises and measles), and to check for the possible return of quantum efficiency hysteresis. The observations completed as scheduled, and observations were reported to look fine. 1.7 Completed FOC/96 4800 (The Stellar Content of Wolf-Rayet Galaxies (FOC Images)) The Faint Object Camera was used to make one spectral observation of the Wolf-Rayet galaxy TOL-35. This galaxy is a star bursting galaxy which exhibits broad He II emissions at 4686 A0 from stellar sources. The observation was received and displayed. No anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed HSP/POL 1097 (X-Ray Binaries Part 2 - Cycle 2 High) The High Speed Photometer was used to make two photometric observations of the X-Ray binary star HD226868 taken with different filters. The observations were received and displayed in the OSS. They Both were reported to be successful. 1.9 Completed PC 4929 (WF/PC Cycle : Improved Dark Calibration) The Planetary Camera was used to make dark calibration images. The exposures lasted 1200 seconds each, and the camera was pre-flashed before the observations. The observations were monitored by the OSS, and the data quality was assessed. No problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 4 Successful : 4 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 Losses of Lock : 0 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 12 Successful : 12 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Note: None 3.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED FOR NEXT REPORTING PERIOD: 3.1 Complete PC 4940 (Post Asymptotic Giant Branch Evolution in the Magellanic Clouds) 3.2 Complete FGS 4031 (High Speed Astrometry - A Search for Planetary Companions to Low Mass) 3.3 Complete WFC 4713 (WF/PC Cycle 2 Calibration: WFC Internal Delta Flats) 3.4 Complete PC 4714 (WF/PC Cycle : PC Internal Delta Flats) 3.5 Complete There Sets of PC 4929 (WF/PC Cycle 2 : Improved Dark Calibration) 3.6 Uplink Update Ephemeris Tables, Per MOSES 2871 3.7 Complete Two Set of FOS 4226 (Ultraviolet Spectroscopy of Hydrogen - Poor Planetary Nebulae) 3.8 Complete WFC 4738 (WF/PC Cycle 2 Calibration: UV Flat 1) 3.9 Complete PC 4902 ()HST Medium - Deep Survey - Part 2 : Low Lat. - Cycle 3 High 3.10 Complete FOC/96 4666 (The Jets of Centaurus A and Its Host Galaxies - Cycle 3 Medium) 4.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 4.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 4.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 5.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
