HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #954 PERIOD COVERED: 0800 EST Daily Status Report as of 231/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Complete PC 5020 (Separate Light Curves of Pluto and Charon - Split of 3848) The Planetary Camera was used to make two photometry observations of the planet Pluto and its moon Charon. Separate observations were also made of a comparison star. The objective was to obtain improved albedo mapping of Pluto and its satellite. The observations were made in fine lock. They were received in real time and displayed in the OSS. They were reported to be nominal. 1.2 Complete GHRS/2 1189 (Zeta Oph.> Interstellar Molecules - Cycle 2) The High Resolution Spectrograph was used to make spectral observations of weak absorption line from interstellar molecules from viewing the background star Zeta Ophiuchi. All target acquisitions, wavelenght calibrations, and spectral observations were successful. All of the observations were reported to look okay. 1.3 Complete WFC 5013 (WF/PC Cycle 3: WFC Flats Narrow. 2) The Wide Field Camera was used to make six Earth flat calibration images to be used for flat fielding of WFC observations. The observations used the narrow band filters, both with and without neutral density filters. Two images were reported to be okay, two were saturated, and two were underexposed. 1.4 Complete WFC/PC 5026 (WF/PC Cycle 3 Calibration: Rapid Internal Monitor) The Wide Field Camera and the Planetary Camera were used to make internal flat calibration images. These images will be used to look for measles and daisies (i.e., different forms of contamination), and to monitor scattered light. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Complete HSP/UV2 4307 (Radial and Non-Radial Pulsations in Hot White Dwarfs - Cycle 3 Medium) The High Speed Photometer was used to make photometric observations of the hot white dwarf star K1-16 (surface temperature about 120000 to 140000K). This star is known to exhibit non-radial pulsations. The OSS monitored the observations, and assessed the data quality. No problems were reported. 1.6 Complete FGS 5062 (Scale Cycle 2 Calibration - Fixed) Fine Guidance Sensor #3 was used to calibrate the scale in the central region using standard star HD16620. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.7 Complete PC 5014 (WF/PC Cycle 3 Calibration: PC Flats Narrow. 2) The Planetary Camera was used to make standard Earth calibrations images for flat fielding of PC observations. Medium and narrow filters were used, with and without neutral density filters. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.8 Complete FOS/BL/RD 4976 (UV Rotational Light Curves for Pluto, and Charon's UV Spectrum - Split) The Faint object Spectrograph was used to make a TALED exposure subsequent to other spectral observations of the planet Pluto and its moon Charon. The TALED observation was received in real time and displayed for the principal investigator. It was reported to look okay. After a corrective SIP maneuver was uplinked to the spacecraft, spectral observations were made of the planet Pluto. The observations were executed in fine lock. No problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 10 Successful : 10 Losses of Lock : 0 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 8 Successful : 8 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Note: None 3.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED FOR NEXT REPORTING PERIOD: 3.1 Complete WFC/PC 4785 (WF/PC Cycle 2 Calibration: Interchip Photometric Calibration) 3.2 Uplink Updated Ephemeris Tables. per MOSES 2871 3.3 Complete PC 4903 (The Nuclei of Nearby S0 and Spiral Galaxies - II A, PC Snapshot Imaging) 3.4 Complete GHRS/2 4798 (The Properties of Single Interstellar Clouds: HOPR Repeat Cycle 1) 4.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 4.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 4.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 5.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
