HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #969 PERIOD COVERED: 0800 EST Daily Status Report as of 253/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Uplinked Updated Ephemeris Tables, Per MOSES 2871 1.2 Completed FOC/96 3801 (Searching for QSOs Suitable for Subsequent Observations of HE II) The Faint Object Camera was used to make observations of quasar 0059_287 to measure the levels of its ultraviolet flux, to see if the flux levels are high enough for subsequent observations using the GHRS and FOS. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were seen. 1.3 Completed FOS/RD 3676 (Quasar Absorption Line Studies of Starburst Galaxy Environment) The Faint Object Spectrograph was used to make observations of the gas outflow in starbursting galaxy NGC-520 by obtaining the spectra of a quasar (NGC-520.40) which lies behind the target galaxy. They hope to learn about the ionization state, metallicity, geometry, and kinematics of the outflowing gas. The first four observations showed no anomalies. 1.4 Completed Two Sets of WFC 5013 (WF/PC Cycle 3 Calibration: WFC Flats Narrow. 2) The Wide Field Camera was used to make Earth flat calibration images to be used for flat fielding of WFC observations. The observations used the narrow band filters, both with and without neutral density filters. All of the observations were received, and they were reported to be okay. 1.5 Completed PC 5026 (WF/PC Cycle 3 Calibration: Rapid Internal Monitor) The Wide Field Camera and the Planetary Camera were used to make two internal flat calibration images. These images will be used to look for measles and daisies (i.e., different forms of contamination), and to monitor scattered light. Both observations were executed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.6 Completed Two Sets of PC 5073 (WF/PC Cycle 3 Calibration: PC Flats Wide. 2) The Planetary Camera was used to make two sets of Earth flat calibration images using different filter combinations. These images will be used for flat field corrections of science images made with the PC. Both images were reported to be saturated. 1.7 Completed Two Sets of PC 4381 (HST Medium - Deep Survey - Cycle 3) The Wide Field Camera was used to make two set of medium-deep high latitude sky survey observations taken in parallel with the prime science observations. Both observations were executed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. The images were reported to look fine. 1.8 Completed Two Sets of PC 5014 (WF/PC Cycle 3 Calibration: PC Flats Narrow. 2) The Planetary Camera was used to make six standard Earth calibrations images for flat fielding of PC observations. Medium and narrow filters were used, with and without neutral density filters. The observations were executed as scheduled. Four images were reported to look okay, and two images were saturated. 1.9 Completed FOS/BL 5046 (Cycle 3 FOS Photometric Monitoring) The Faint Object Spectrograph was used to make three spectral observations of standard star BD28D4211 using different gratings and apertures. The purpose was to measure the absolute sensitivity and aperture throughput of the FOS. All three observations were received and displayed in real-time. They all appeared to be successful. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 3 Successful : 3 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 12 Successful : 12 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 4 Successful : 4 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Note: None 3.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED FOR NEXT REPORTING PERIOD: 3.1 Complete Two Sets of PC 4521 (Asteroid Shape and Duplicity - Cycle 3 High) 3.2 Complete FGS 5058 (Extracgalactic Astrometry and Astrophysics FT12-23, Part 2 of 2) 3.3 Complete FOS/RD 5053 (Cycle 3 FOS Location of Spectra: Y-Base Maps) 3.4 Complete FGS 5061 (Linking the HIPPARCOS to the Extragalactic Reference Frame Part 4 of 6) 3.5 Complete FGS 4893 (Orbital Motions of Close Binary Stars, Cycle 3 High) 3.6 Complete WFC 4848 (GTO Low Latitude Parallel Program Cycle 3 High) 3.7 Complete PC 5073 (WF/PC Cycle 3 Calibration: PC Flats Wide. 2) 3.8 Complete WFC 5013 (WF/PC Cycle 3 Calibration: WFC Flats Narrow. 2) 3.9 Complete FOS/BL 3803 (Pluto's FUV Spectrum: CO Abundance FUV Survey) 3.10 Complete PC 4308 (Snapshot Survey for Companions to Planetary - Nebula Nuclei - Cycle 3 High) 3.11 Complete FOC/96 4800 (The Stellar Content of Wolf - Rayet Galaxies (FOC Images)) 3.12 Complete Four Sets of WFC 4381 (HST Medium - Deep Survey - Cycle 3) 3.13 Uplink Updated Ephemeris Tables, Per 2871 3.14 Complete HSP/UV2 4502 (Quasi-periodic Oscillations in AM Herculis Binaries - Cycle 3 Medium) 3.15 Complete FOS/BL 4401 (Ultraviolet Spectropolarimetry of GD229: Cycle 3 High) 3.16 Complete Seven Sets of PC 5014 (WF/PC Cycle 3 Calibration: PC Flats Narrow. 2) 3.17 Complete Two Sets of PC 4902 (HST Medium - Deep Survey - Part 2: Low-Latitude - Cycle 3 High) 3.18 Complete Two Set of WFC 5075 (WF/PC Cycle 3 Calibration: WFC Flats Wide. 1) 3.19 Complete S/C 5015 (FOC/48 Monthly Activation (Camera Section Only)) 3.20 Complete FOS/RD/BL 3815 (UV Observations of The Hubble-Sandage Variables in M-31 and M-33) 3.21 Complete WFC 3840 (The Abundance and Time Evolution of Carbon, Nitrogen and Oxygen) 4.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 4.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 4.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 5.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
