HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1008 PERIOD COVERED: 0800 EST Daily Status Report as of 308/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WFC 4658 (Determination of the Extragalactic ) The Wide field Camera was used to make images of two different fields within the large spiral galaxy M-101 (aka, NGC-5457) which is located in Ursa Major. This is to help locate Cepheid variable stars to determine a reliable distance which can be effected by reddening and metallicity. The OSS monitored the observations, and assessed the data quality. No problems were reported. 1.2 Completed PC 4308 (Snapshot Survey for Companions to Planetary Nebula Nuclei - Cycle 3 High) The Planetary Camera was used to make an observation of the central region of planetary nebula ABELL30. It is possible that the central star in a double star. The observations was executed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.3 Completed HSP/UV2 1093 (Observations of ZZ Ceti Stars) The High Speed Photometer was used to make ultraviolet observations of G117-B15A which is a pulsating white dwarf with a period of 215 seconds. and has a visual magnitude of 15.2 . Two ultraviolet observations were made to obtain the star's color (i.e., temperature) as a function of time. No anomalies were reported. 1.4 Completed WFC 4381 (HST Medium - Deep Survey - Cycle 3) The Wide Field Camera was used to make two sets of medium-deep high latitude sky survey observations taken in parallel with the prime science observations. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed FOS/BL/RD 5200 (FOS Cycle 3 Scattered Light Calibration) The Faint Object Spectrograph was used to make observations of the late type star Alpha Orionis (aka, the super giant star Betelgeuse) to determine how much of the light from the continuum at wavelengths greater than 3000 A0 is being scattered by the gratings and shows up as spectra of weak ultraviolet sources. The observations were monitored by the OSS, and the data quality was assessed. No anomalies were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 11 Successful : 11 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 9 Successful : 9 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Note: The SMGT 14B Prime Simulation started today, Thursday ,Nov. 4 at 8 AM and will last until 2 PM. 3.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED FOR NEXT REPORTING PERIOD: 3.1 Complete HSP/POL 1098 (Observations of ZZ Ceti Stars ) 3.2 Complete FOS/RD 4784 (Transition Comets: UV Search for OH) 3.3 Complete FOS/RD 4581 (Quasar Absorption Line Survey - Cycle 3 High) 3.4 Complete WFC 5013 (WF/PC Cycle 3 Calibration: WFC Flat Narrow. 2) 3.5 Complete Five Sets of WFC/PC 4381 (HST Medium - Deep Survey - Cycle 3) 3.6 Complete PC 5014 (WF/PC Cycle 3 Calibration: PC Flats Narrow. 2) 3.7 Complete FGS 4893 (Orbital Motions of Close Binary Stars - Cycle 3 High) 3.8 Complete FOC/96 3728 (Imaging of Hot Stellar Content of Early Type Galaxies) 3.9 Complete WFC 4849 (GTO High Latitude Parallel Program - Cycle 3 High) 3.10 Complete FOS/BL 4212 (Internal Wavelength Calibration) 3.11 Complete FGS 4669 (Interferometric Search for Multiplicity of Near Small Asteroids) 3.12 Complete FOS/BL 3791 (Quasar Absorption Line Survey: Cycle 2 Observations) 4.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 4.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 4.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 5.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
