HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1012 PERIOD COVERED: 0800 EST Daily Status Report as of 314/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed GHRS/2 4510 (The Evolution of Boron: Implementation for Galactic Evolution) The High Resolution Spectrograph was used to make a spectrographic observation of the late type star HD184499 to help study the chemical and dynamical evolution of theat object. The science observations were reported to look okay. 1.2 Completed GHRS/2 2536 (Deuterium in the Local Interstellar Gas) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Echelle Unit) was used to make spectral observations of the interstellar absorption lines in the spectrum of early class star HD52089. This is hoped to determine variations that have been observed in the Deuterium/ Hydrogen ratio. A corrective pointing maneuver was successfully uplinked to the spacecraft. The spectral observations were reported to look normal. 1.3 Completed WFC 5013 (WF/PC Cycle 3 Calibration: WFC Flats Narrow. 2) The Wide Field Camera was used to make four Earth flat calibration images to be used for flat fielding of WFC observations. The observations used the narrow band filters, both with and without neutral density filters. One image was reported to be okay, and three were saturated. 1.4 Completed Two Sets fo WFC 5076 (WF/PC Cycle 3 Calibration: WFC Flats Wide. 2) Six routine Earth flat calibration exposures were taken with the Wide Field Camera. The observations were monitored in the OSS, and the data quality was assessed. One observation was saturated, two were underexposed, and three were reported to look okay. 1.5 Completed Two Sets of PC 5072 (WF/PC Cycle 3 Calibration: PC Flats Wide. 1) Both the Wide Field Camera and the Planetary camera were used to make 12 Earth Flat calibration exposures using the wide and medium band filters. The observations were received and displayed in the OSS. Three observations were saturated, one was partially saturated, two were underexposed, one was partially underexposed, and four were okay. 1.6 Completed Two Sets of PC 5073 (WF/PC cycle 3 Calibration: PC flats Wide. 2) The Planetary Camera was used to make six Earth flat calibration images using different filter combinations. These images will be used for flat field corrections of science images made with the PC. One was underexposed, one was partially saturated, and four were okay. 1.7 Completed GHRS/2 3472 (The Properties of Single Interstellar Clouds - Cycle 2) The High Resolution Spectrograph was used to make Echelle spectral observations of the broad-lined, early-type star HD044743. Both the Echelle and grating G160M were used. The OSS monitored the observations, and assessed the data quality. No anomalies were reported. 1.8 Completed PC 5014 (WF/PC Cycle 3 Calibration: PC Flats Narrow. 2) The Planetary Camera was used to make standard Earth calibrations images for flat fielding of PC observations. Medium and narrow filters were used, with and without neutral density filters. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 4 Successful : 4 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 18 Successful : 18 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 5 Successful : 5 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Note: Simulation JIS #6 (EVA 4 and 5, plus Deploy) was initiated Monday morning, Nov. 8, 1993 at 8 AM and is scheduled to last for 59 hours.
