HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1019 PERIOD COVERED: 0800 EST Daily Status Report as of 323/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WFC 5074 (WF/PC Cycle 3 Calibration: WFC Flats Narrow. 1) The Wide Field Camera was used to make Earth Flat images which will be used to remove pixel to pixel variations in the grain of the chips. Sixteen observations taken in pairs were taken for each filter. The OSS monitored the observations, and assessed the data quality. No anomalies were reported. 1.2 Completed FOS/RD 5048 (FOS Cycle 3 Spectral Flats Fields and Monitor) The Faint Object spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make observations of hot white dwarf star G191-B2B (aka, WD0501+527) to monitor changes in the flat field characteristics of the FOS. The first three onboard target acquisitions were successful. During the fourth acquisition the FOS shutter was closed, for unknown reasons. The observation received only noise. The OSS chose not to open the shutter by uplink commands. 1.3 Completed PC 4902 (HST Medium - Deep Survey - Part 2: Low Latitude - Cycle 3 High) The Planetary Camera was used to make a long exposure taken in parallel with the prime science observation. Areas of interest are galactic structure and evolution. There is also the possibility of serendipitous discoveries. The observation was executed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.4 Completed WFC 4929 (WF/PC Cycle 2: Improved Dark Calibration) The Planetary Camera was used to make two dark calibration images. The two exposures lasted 1200 seconds each, and the camera was pre-flashed before the observations. Both observations were reported to be normal exposures. 1.5 Completed FOS/RD/BL 4694 (Stellar Content of Galaxies and Globular Clusters - Spectroscope) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Both the Red and Blue Sides) were used to make observations of globular cluster MII-EXT-CL which is located in the M-31 Galaxy (aka, Andromeda Galaxy). The G130H grating was used of the Blue side, and G270H and G400H were used on the Red Side. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.6 Completed WFC 4348 (Long Period Variables of M81: Cycle 3 Medium) The Wide Field Camera was used to make one image to the galaxy M-81 (aka, NGC-3031) to look for long period variable stars which can be compared to those already studied in our own galaxy and the Magellanic Clouds. These stars should have period of from 100 to 100 days. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.7 Completed WFC/PC 5026 (WF/PC Cycle 3 Calibration: Rapid Internal Monitor) The Wide Field Camera and the Planetary Camera were used to make internal flat calibration images. These images will be used to look for measles and daisies (i.e., different forms of contamination), and to monitor scattered light. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 2 Successful : 2 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 11 Successful : 11 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 8 Successful : 8 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Note: None 3.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED FOR NEXT REPORTING PERIOD: 3.1 Complete FOS/BL 5048 (FOS Cycle 3 Spectral Flats and Monitor) 3.2 Complete PC 4902 (HST Medium - Deep Survey - Part 2 Low Latitude - Cycle 3 High) 3.3 Complete WFC 4348 (Long Period Variables of M-81: Cycle 3 Medium) 3.4 Complete WFC/PC 5026 (WF/PC Cycle 3 Calibration: Rapid Internal Monitor) 3.5 Complete FOS/RD 4941 (Geometry and Generalizability of the Reflective Light Model for Seyfert Galaxies) 3.6 Complete PC 4521 (Asteroid Shape and Duplicity - Cycle 3 High) 3.7 Complete PC 4712 (WF/PC Cycle 2 Calibration: Measles Monitor) 3.8 Complete FOC/96 3807 (Minkowski's Object) 3.9 Complete Three Sets of WFC 4381 (HST Medium - Deep Survey - Cycle 3) 3.10 Complete Two Sets of PC 5073 (WF/PC Cycle 3 Calibration: PC Flats Wide. 2) 3.11 Complete Three Sets of PC 5072 (WF/PC Cycle 3 Calibration: PC Flats Wide. 1) 3.13 Complete PC 5014 (WF/PC Cycle 3 Calibration: PC Flats Narrow. 2) 3.14 Complete FOS/BL 4285 (Time-Resolved UV Spectrometry of Massive X-Ray Binaries: Cycle 3 High) 3.15 Complete Two Sets of PC 4929 (WF/PC Cycle 2: Improved Dark Calibration) 3.16 Complete PC 5017 (Internal Velocity Distribution in Globular Clusters Pert Three, Cycle 3) 3.17 Complete HSP/POL 4889 (Gravitational Lenes Part I - Cycle 3 High) 3.18 Complete Two Sets of WFC 5076 (WF/PC Cycle 3 Calibration: WFC Flats Wide. 2) 3.19 Complete Two Sets of WFC 5075 (WF/PC Cycle 3 Calibration: WFC Flats Wide. 1) 3.20 Complete WFC 5074 (WF/PC Flats Calibration: WFC Flats Narrow. 1) 4.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 4.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 4.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 5.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Internal Simulation #2 (EVA 1) is scheduled for next Monday, Nov. 22, 1993 starting at 8am, and is planned to run for 12 hours. /DMH -END- .
