HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1027 PERIOD COVERED: 0800 EST Daily Status Report as of 336/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: Note: Science observations will continue until about 24 Hours after the Lift-Off of the STS-61 Mission. 1.1 Completed Two Sets of PC 5014 (WF/PC Cycle 3 Calibration: PC Flats Narrow. 2) The Planetary Camera was used to make standard Earth calibrations images for flat fielding of PC observations. Medium and narrow filters were used, with and without neutral density filters. The observations were executed as scheduled. A total of eight observations were received and displayed. Two were reported to be okay, two were underexposed, three were saturated, and one suffered some data loss due to a tape recorder track change. 1.2 Completed PC 5027 (WF/PC Cycle 3 Calibration: Rapid Internal Monitor - Part 2) The Planetary Camera was used to make internal flat observations to check for quantum efficiency hysteresis. Two images were taken, and both were reported to look normal. 1.3 Completed PC 5072 (WF/PC Cycle 3 Calibration: PC Flats Wide. 1) Both the Wide Field Camera and the Planetary camera were used to make Earth Flat calibration exposures using the wide and medium band filters. Six observations were received and displayed in the OSS. Three images were reported to be okay, two were underexposed, and one was saturated. 1.4 Completed Two Sets of 4381 (HST Medium - Deep Survey Cycle 3) The Wide Field Camera was used to make two sets of medium-deep high latitude sky survey observations taken in parallel with the prime science observations. The observations were executed as scheduled. The first two observations were reported to have had recentering events occur, the third observation was reported to be okay. 1.5 Completed WFC 5023 (Cal/WFPC Cycle 3 Polarization Calibration) The Wide Field Camera was used to make polarization calibration observations by using images of a non-polarized standard star. This will allow for the absolute transmittance of the polarized optical path to be established. Four images were received and displayed. One was reported to be saturated, and the other three were okay. 1.6 Completed GHRS/2 4883 (Weak Absorption Lines in 3C273: Cycle 3 High) The High Resolution spectrograph was used to make observations of radio quasar 3C273.0 (Visual Magnitude 12.8) to study the Lyman - Alpha "forest" and to place limits on the column densities of the various clouds that produce the forest. The first two observations were monitored in real-time. The onboard target acquisition was successful. The remaining observations were taken during LOS, and were stored on the science tape recorder. After later analysis, they were reported to have had several recentering events occur during the observations. They were reported to look reasonable. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 10 Successful : 10 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 11 Successful : 11 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Note: The launch of STS-61 was successfully executed as scheduled this morning, Thursday, Dec.2, 1993 at 336/0926Z.
