HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1052 PERIOD COVERED: 0700 EST Daily Status Report as of 013/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 5240 (SMOV-WF/PC-2 Flat Field Calibrations) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a set of visual internal flat images. 11 images were received and displayed in the OSS. Four of the images were reported to be underexposed, and seven were okay. 1.2 Completed Two Sets of FOS/RD/BL 4746 (COSTAR/FOS Coarse Alignment) The Faint Object spectrograph was used to make pairs of acquisitions, one from each side (i.e., Red and Blue), to be used for coarse alignment and focus of the COSTAR FOS M1 mirror. The cluster NGC-188-225 was used as a target object. No problems were reported. 1.3 Completed WF/PC -2 5248 (WF/PC-2 Image Quality and Stability Check) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a stability image of the star cluster NGC-188 for over a 2000 seconds time span. This will be compared with short time span exposures. A dark exposure was also taken. The baseline guide star acquisition got fine lock, and the exposures completed. The observations were reported to be nominal. 1.4 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 4721 (WF/PC-2 Decontamination and TEC Turn ON) The WF/PC-2 was used to make ultraviolet photometric observations of the star standard A+81D266, plus K-Spots, and dark calibration images. All four sets of CCDs were used. A total of 11 images were received and displayed in the OSS. No anomalies were reported. 1.5 Completed FOS/BL 5133 (Mass Exchange Binaries (FOS 34) SS 2883: Cycle 4) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make observations of the mass exchanging contact binary star SS2883 (aka, DC-63D2495). This system is composed of a class Be star and a pulsar. The observations were monitored in the OSS, and the data quality was assessed. No anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 4709 (WF/PC-2 Internal Monitor) The WF/PC-2 was used to make two sets of routine internal monitoring exposures (i.e., darks, biases, and K-Spots) of star cluster NGC-188 as part of SMOV. The observations were received, displayed. Both images were reported to be normal. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled :10 Successful :10 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: SMOV activities continue to be performed on or ahead of the planned schedule. COSTAR was repositioned for the FOS during the night. All onboard subsystems remain in nominal states. A press conference will be held this morning at 10:30 a.m. to present the first pictures from the refurbished HST. 3.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED FOR NEXT REPORTING PERIOD: 3.1 Complete WF/PC-2 4721 (WF/PC-2 Decontamination and TEC Turn On) 3.2 Complete WF/PC-2 4763 (WF/PC-2 QE and Throughput Measurement) 3.3 Complete Two Sets of FOS/RD/BL 4746 (COSTAR/FOS Coarse Alignment) 3.4 Complete WF/PC-2 5502 (ERO Imaging of QSO Host Galaxies) 3.5 Complete Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5240 (SMOV-WF/PC-2 Flat Field Calibration) 3.6 Complete FOC/96 4787 (Observations of an External Seyfert Galaxy) 4.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 4.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 4.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 5.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: None /DMH -END-
