HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1060 PERIOD COVERED: 0700 EST Daily Status Report as of 025/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Four Sets of WF/PC-2 5240 (SMOV-WF/PC-2 Flat Fields Calibration) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a set of visual internal flat images. Six images were received and displayed. Two images were reported to be underexposed, and the others were okay. 1.2 Completed GHRS/2 4731 (COSTAR/GHRS Coarse Alignment) The High Resolution Spectrograph was used to make observations of the ultraviolet standard star AGK81D266 to help refine the tilt and focus of the COSTAR mirrors. The mirror motions were successfully uplinked to the spacecraft. The onboard target acquisition was successful, and left the target star well centered. The subsequent observations were made in fine lock. No anomalies were noted.. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5590 (Cycle 4 DD HST Observations of Comet Shoemaker-Levy (1993E)) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the comet Shoemaker-Levi. This comet has broken into several pieces after a close approach to Jupiter. Observations were made of pieces SL-7 and SL-15 to help estimate their size, mass, and morphology. A total of eight images were received and displayed. The images were reported to look normal. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-3 5475 (A Snapshot Survey for Blue Stragglers in Magellanic Cluster Cores) The WF/PC-2 was used to make short exposure snapshot images of the blue straggler stars located in cluster NGC-422. The observations were made with two different color filters. The intent is to find out if blue straggles stars exist within this cluster. Two observations were completed, but both had questionable pointing, due to an earlier guide star acquisition failure. Also, both images were slightly trailed. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5248 (WF/PC-2 Image Quality and Stability Check) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a stability image of the star cluster NGC-188 for over a 2000 seconds time span. This will be compared with short time span exposures. Two dark exposures were also taken. The baseline guide star acquisition got fine lock, and the exposures completed without apparent anomaly. The observations were reported to be nominal. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled :9 Successful :7 At 025/0202Z the FHST 1,and 3 failed a Type 2 Slew update following LOL during a ZOE (indicating a vehicle error). 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: All SMOV planned activities continue to be performed successfully and uneventfully.
