HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1062 PERIOD COVERED: 0700 EST Daily Status Report as of 027/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5369 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium High Gal. Lat) The WF/PC-2 made a series of observations of high latitude objects as part of a medium deep sky survey. Several different filters were used. The observations were taken in parallel with other prime science observations. Seven observations were received and displayed. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5240 (SMOV-WFPC-2 Flat Fields Calibration) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a set of visual internal flat images. Six images were received and displayed. Two of the images were reported to be underexposed, and the other four were nominal. 1.3 Completed Two Sets of 4731 (COSTAR/GHRS Coarse Alignment) The High Resolution Spectrograph was used to make observations of the ultraviolet standard star AGK81D266 to help refine the tilt and focus of the COSTAR mirrors. The mirror motions were successfully uplinked to the spacecraft. The onboard target acquisition was successful, and left the target star well centered. The subsequent observations were made in fine lock. No anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5475 (A Snapshot Survey for Blue Stragglers in ` Magellanic Cluster Cores) The WF/PC-2 was used to make short exposure snapshot images of the blue straggler stars located in clusters NGC-121, NGC-465, NGC-330, and NGC-1831. The observations were made with two different color filters. The intent is to find out if blue straggler stars exist within this cluster. A total of nine images were received and displayed. They were reported to look fine. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5590 (Cycle 4 DD HST Observations of Comet Shoemaker-Levy (1993E)) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the comet Shoemaker-Levy. This comet has broken into several pieces after a close approach to Jupiter. Group observations were made of several pieces to help estimate their size, mass, and morphology. A total of four images were received and displayed. The images were reported to look good, except for an extremely bright star which might mask out some of the fragments. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 4749 (WF/PC-2 Relative Photometric Calibration) The WF/PC-2 was used to make photometric calibration images of standard star A+81D266 which is located in NGC-5136 (aka, Omega Centauri) to obtain various medium and broad band filter images. The OSS monitored the observations and assessed the data quality. Seven images were received and displayed. They were reported to look okay, except for occasional recenterings. 1.7 Completed FGS 5583 (Long Term Stability of FGS#3) The Fine Guidance Sensor #3 was used to monitor the optical field angle distortion by making astrometric observations of star OF55-REF which is located in the open cluster M-35. The astrometric observations were monitored, and no problems were seen in the telemetry. 1.8 Completed FOS/RD/COSTAR 5605 (COSTAR/FOS Fine Alignment - X-Tilt/Y- Tilt Repeat of 4747) This proposal was canceled because it was not needed. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled :16 Successful :16 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: SMOV activities are being performed nominally and on time.
