HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1073 PERIOD COVERED: 0700 EST Daily Status Report as of 042/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed FOS/RD 5320 (A New Size Constant on Lyman Alpha Clouds: Cycle 4 Medium) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to attempt observations of quasar LB9605 to look for interstellar absorption lines. A total of nine observations were received and displayed in the OSS. As was expected for this target, only noise was reported to be present 1.2 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5240 (SMOV-WF/PC-2 Flat field Calibration) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a single visual internal flat image. The image was received and displayed. It was reported to be okay. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5369 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 made a series of observations of high latitude objects as part of a medium deep sky survey. Several different filters were used. The observations were taken in parallel with other prime science observations. Five observations were received and displayed. They were reported to look fine. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5475 (A Snapshot Survey For Blue Stragglers in Magellanic Clusters) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a short exposure snapshot image of the blue straggler stars located in populous cluster NGC-2136. A populous cluster is the Magellanic Cloud equivalent of a galactic globular cluster. The observations were made with two different color filters. The intent is to find out if blue straggler stars exist within this cluster. The image was received and displayed. It was reported to look nominal. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5156 (Optical Emission in Double Radio Galaxy Lobes: Cycle 4) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the compact hot spots in the double radio lobes of galaxy 3C33S to search for optical counterparts of the radio hot spots. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed FOS/BL 5444 (A UV Spectral Library of Metal Poor Massive Stars) The Faint Object Spectrograph was used to make ultraviolet observations to the metal poor massive star NS3-68 which is located in the Large Magellanic Cloud. This is to help study its stellar atmosphere and stellar evolution. The OSS monitored the observations, and assessed the data quality. No anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed FOS/RD 5267 (Velocity Dispersions in the Nucleus of M-87 (FOC ERO):Cycle 4 FOS) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make spectral observations of the large spiral galaxy (Class Sb) NGC-4486 (aka, M-87) located in the Virgo Cluster. This is to study the stellar velocity distribution and rotation in the nuclear region. The onboard target acquisition was successful, and the acquisition image showed a nicely centered target. No anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 4 Successful : 4 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 11 Successful : 11 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled :13 Successful :13 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: Goddard Space Flight Center was closed today (Friday, Feb. 11) because of the ice and snow conditions. There was no anomalous behavior in any HST subsystem or in any of the SMOV activities. 3.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED FOR NEXT REPORTING PERIOD: 3.1 Complete Five Sets of WF/PC-2 5240 (SMOV WF/PC-2 Flat Fields Calibration) 3.2 Complete GHRS/2 5549 (GHRS Side 2 Dark Noise Monitor: Cycle 4) 3.3 Complete WF/PC-2 4763 (WF/PC-2 QE and Throughput Measurement) 3.4 Complete Two Sets of GHRS/2/S/C 5196 (GHRS SMOV Side 1 High Voltage Turn On) 3.5 Complete FOC/96 5139 (A Search For Low Mass Companions to Nearby Astrometric Binaries) 3.6 Complete WF/PC-2 5091 (GTO High Latitude Parallel Program: Cycle 4) 3.7 Complete FGS 4892 (Duplicity Among Heads Stars: Cycle 3, High) 3.8 Complete Two Sets of FOS/96 5320 (A New Size Constraint on Lyman Alpha Clouds: Cycle 4 Medium) 3.9 Complete Four Sets of WF/PC-2 5369 (HST Medium Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) 3.10 Complete Two Sets of FOS/96 5486 (I ZW 1: A Template Fe II Quasar ) 3.11 Complete FGS 2860 (Linking the HIPPARCOS to the Extragalactic Reference Frame, Part 3 of 6) 4.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 4.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 4.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 5.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
