HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1075 PERIOD COVERED: 0700 EST Daily Status Report as of 046/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 4709 (WF/PC-2 Internal Monitor) The WF/PC camera was used to make a series of routine dark calibration images, ultraviolet flats, visual flats, and internals to monitor the instrument's performance. A total of ten observations were received and displayed. The observations were monitored in the OSS, and the data quality was assessed. No anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed FGS 4893 (Orbital Motions of Close Binary Stars: Cycle 3 High) Fine Guidance Sensor #3 was used to make astrometric observations of the binary star system BD+14D1690 to obtain its orbital elements. These observations are important since most of the estimates of stellar mass are made by observing elements of these systems. The astrometry was monitored and no problems were seen in the telemetry. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxy 3C399.1 as part of a continuum survey and to study the galaxy's morphology. Two images were received and displayed. Both were reported to look okay. 1.4 Completed FOC/97 5147 (High Resolution Observations of Symbiotic Variables: Cycle 4) The Faint Object Camera was used to make observations of the symbiotic star Nova Cygni 1992 which is known to possess complex surrounding emission nebulosities. The observations were received in real time . A SIP corrective pointing maneuver was successfully uplinked to the spacecraft. Six images were received and displayed. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5092 (GTO Low Latitude Parallel Program: Cycle 4) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations taken in parallel with the prime science observations. This is part of a survey to take a large number of fields within 30 degrees of the galactic plan. The intent is to determine the luminosity function of low mass stars and the mass density in the solar neighborhood. The images were received as scheduled, and they were reported to look okay. 1.6 Completed COSTAR/U 4744 (COSTAR/GHRS Fine Alignment - Focus) The High Resolution Spectrograph was scheduled to be used to make observations of ultraviolet a standard star to determine the best position of the M1 mirror. The COSTAR/GHRS mirror moves were canceled at the request of the principal investigator. 1.7 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5112 (Globular Clusters in M-31 and NGC-205 (WC11): Cycle 4) The WF/PC-2 was used to make deep images of globular clusters K219, K105, and K57 located within galaxy M-31 (aka, The Andromeda Galaxy) to obtain H-R diagram information and information on their radial densities. The observations were made in fine lock. The image was received and displayed. They were reported to look okay. 1.8 Completed FGS 5334 (Linking HIPPARCOS to the Extragalactic Reference Frame, Part 1) The FGS were used to make astrometric observations of extra-galactic object 0405-123IN to help tie the HIPPARCOS and extra-galactic reference frames to gether at the 0.0005 arcsecond range. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 0 Successful : 0 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 0 Successful : 0 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled :0 Successful :0 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: All SIs are normal. The GHRS Side One high voltage power supply was successfully turned on Friday evening, after a lengthy series of tests to monitor stability of Side One low voltage power. The high voltage turn-on was the last major hurdle for full recovery of GHRS Side One. The following few SMSs will contain Cycle 4 S1 carrousel and detector calibrations as prerequisites to resumption of S1 science. This activity also represents the last of the SMOV SI activation milestones, all of which have been successful! 3.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED FOR NEXT REPORTING PERIOD: 3.1 Complete WF/PC-2 5112 (globular Clusters in M-31 and NGC-205: Cycle 4) 3.2 Complete WF/PC-2 5106 (Planetary Nebular Structure: Cycle 4) 3.3 Complete FGS 5338 (Linking HIPPARCOS to the Extragalactic Reference/ NEWHIP-D) 3.4 Complete Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshot of 3CR Radio Galaxies) 3.5 Complete Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5104 (Peculiar and Interacting Galaxies: Cycle 4) 3.6 Complete WF/PC-2 5475 (A Snapshot of Blue Stragglers in Magellanic Cluster Cores) 3.7 Complete GHRS/2 5609 (SMOV COSTAR/GHRS Sensitivity MSMT - (Replacement For SSA Portion of 47)) 4.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 4.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 4.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 5.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
