HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1078 PERIOD COVERED: 0700 EST Daily Status Report as of 049/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed GHRS/2 4808 (GHRS MOV LSF Characterization) The High Resolution Spectrograph was used to make observations of the sharp-lined B class standard star HD141556 (aka, Chi-Lupi) to help determine the instruments line spread function for both the large and small science apertures. Nine observations were received and displayed. They were reported to look okay. Two observations were reported missing. This appears to be caused by the GHRS carrousel failing to lock in the allotted time, and affecting the subsequent observations. The anomaly is under investigation. 1.2 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 5240 (SMOV-WF/PC-2 Flat Fields Calibration) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a set of visual internal flat images. 13 images were received and displayed. One of the observations was reported to be underexposed, and the others were okay. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxy 3C196.1 as part of a continuum survey and to study the galaxy's morphology. Two images were received and displayed, both were reported to look okay. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 4709 (WF/PC-2 Internal Monitor) The WF/PC camera was used to make one routine dark calibration image to monitor the instrument's performance. The observation was monitored in the OSS, and the data quality was assessed. No anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed FGS 4892 (Duplicity Among Hyades Stars: Cycle 3 High) The FGSs were used to make astrometric observations of the possible binary star VA162 which is located in the Hyades open cluster. The OSS monitored the observations, and one recentering event was reported to have occurred. 1.6 Completed GHRS/2 4781 (SMOV GHRS Spatial PSF Characterization) The High Resolution Spectrograph made observations of the ultraviolet standard star Mu-Columbia to measure its spatial point spread function. This is to test the GHRS's ability to make measurements in a crowed star field. A total of 15 observations were made with the target both inside and outside aperture. All of the observations were reported to look okay. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 11 Successful : 10 At 048/1429 the fine lock guide star acquisition failed, however, coarse track was successfully obtained.
