HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1081 PERIOD COVERED: 0700 EST Daily Status Report as of 054/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed FOC/96 5131 (Studies fo Spiral Nuclei: Cycle 4 Continuation) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make observations of the central nuclear region of nearby spiral galaxy NGC-4736 (aka, M-94). This is to look for signs of condensation in the nucleus, and other phenomena which can not be seen from the ground. Two images were received and displayed in the OSS. Although the images were reported to look good, they did not include the expected nuclear region. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5612 (SMOV WF/PC-2 Decontamination) The WF/PC-2 was used to do decontamination operations. Observations of standard A+81D266, and K- Spot observations were also taken. A total of six observations were monitored and displayed. All of the observations were reported to be nominal. 1.3 Completed S/C 5604 (COSTAR/FOS Fine Alignment - Focus Repeat of 4745 With New Target) The scheduled Y-Tilt and X-Tilt adjustment for the COSTAR FOS mirror was completed as scheduled with no problems. Observations were made using standard star WD501+527. The observations were received and displayed in real time. They were reported to be nominal. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5355 (The Binary Frequency Among Solar Type Stars in Young Clusters: Cycle 4) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the young star cluster NGC-2068-PO looking for binary stars with separations as low as 0.1 arcseconds to determine the frequency of binaries in this young cluster. Six observations were received and displayed. They all were reported to look okay. Two short recentering events were reported to have happened. 1.5 Completed FGS 4892 (Duplicity Among Hyades Stars: Cycle 3 High) The FGSs were used to make astrometric observations of the possible binary star VA420 which is located in the Hyades open cluster. The OSS monitored the observations. The continuous scans completed with no problems except for a recentering event during the last minutes of the observations. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5206 (The Crab Nebula) The WF/PC-2 was used to make high spatial resolution observations of the Crab Nebula (aka, M-1) to study the ionization structure of the filaments within the nebula. This is to study the chemical composition of the nova ejecta, photoionization processes, dust formation, and interaction of thermal and relativistic plasmas. Two observations were monitored. There were multiple recenterings associated with an End-of-Orbit-Night (EON). 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5240 (SMOV-WF/PC-2 Flat Fields Calibration) The WF/PC-2 was used to make an Earth calibration image. The image was received and displayed, and it was reported to be okay. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 9 Successful : 9 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled :10 Successful :10 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: For the past 24 hours, there were no reported HST subsystem anomalies.
