HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1082 PERIOD COVERED: 0700 EST Daily Status Report as of 055/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxy 3C279.0 as part of a continuum survey and to study the galaxy's morphology. Three images were received and displayed. The first two images were reported to look okay, and a recentering event occurred during the third observation. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5107 (Planetary Nebulae Nuclei Photometry (WC04): Cycle 4) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the nuclei of planetary nebula ME2-1 trying to detect its central star. This star is expected to be very hot and be emitting in the far ultraviolet wavelengths. Six images were received and displayed in the OSS. They were reported to be okay. 1.3 Completed Five Sets of WF/PC-2 5562 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor 3: Darks) The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain several 30 minute long dark exposures to provide ongoing calibration of the CCD dark current and to monitor and characterize the evolution of hot pixels. Five images were received and displayed in the OSS. All five images were reported to look okay. 1.4 Completed COSTAR/U 5604 (COSTAR/FOS Fine Alignment - Focus Repeat of 4745 With New Target) The scheduled Y-Tilt and X-Tilt adjustment for the COSTAR FOS mirror was canceled at the request of the principal investigator. No anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed FOS/BL 5614 (SMOV FOS/FGS Fine Alignment (1.0 Reference)) The Faint Object Spectrograph was used to make spectral observations of the cluster NGC-188-225 to help determine the location of the 1.0 arcsecond aperture for both the Red and Blue Sides. A total of 32 observations were received and displayed. They all were reported to be nominal. 1.6 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 4709 (WF/PC-2 Internal Monitor) The WF/PC camera was used to make a series of routine bias, K-Spot, and internal flat calibration images to monitor the instrument's performance. The observations were monitored in the OSS, and the data quality was assessed. Eight images were received and displayed. No anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5212 (Globular Cluster Formation in Cooling Flow or Interacting Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the globular cluster NGC-6052 to obtain some insight into the clusters formation mechanism. The baseline guide star acquisition got fine lock, and six observations were received and displayed. There were numerous recenterings during the second observation. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5240 (SMOV-WF/PC-2 Flat Field Calibration) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a set of Earth flat images. Six images were received and displayed. Three images were reported to be okay, and two were underexposed. 1.9 Completed FGS 5586 (Parallax of Hyades Cluster Members: Cycle 4 High) The Fine Guidance Sensors were use to make astrometric observations of various different stars located in the Hyades cluster to determent their parallax and compute the distance modulus of the cluster. The astrometric observations were monitored by the OSS, and no problems were seen in the telemetry. 1.10 Completed WF/PC-2 5092 (GTO Low Latitude Parallel Program: Cycle 4) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations taken in parallel with the prime science observations. This is part of a survey to take a large number of fields within 30 degrees of the galactic plan. The intent is to determine the luminosity function of low mass stars and the mass density in the solar neighborhood. The images were received as scheduled, and they were reported to look okay. 1.11 Completed WF/PC-2 5206 (The Crab Nebula) The WF/PC-2 was used to make high spatial resolution observations of the Crab Nebula (aka, M-1) to study the ionization structure of the filaments within the nebula. This is to study the chemical composition of the nova ejecta, photoionization processes, dust formation, and interaction of thermal and relativistic plasmas. The image remain on the Science Tape Recorder (STR) and will be analyzed later. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 7 Successful : 7 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled :17 Successful :17 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: Another nominal day was experienced in SMOV activities and by all HST subsystems. 3.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED FOR NEXT REPORTING PERIOD: 3.1 Complete FOS/RD 5614 (SMOV FOS/FGS Fine Alignment (1.0 Reference)) 3.2 Complete Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5212 (Globular Cluster Formation in Cooling Flow or Interacting Galaxies) 3.3 Complete Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5240 (SMOV-WFPC-2 Flat Fields Calibration) 3.4 Complete WF/PC-2 5436 (Age and Population of Super Metal Rich Globular Clusters) 3.5 Complete WF/PC-2 5204 (The Disks Around Young Stellar Objects ) 3.6 Complete FGS 5587 (Parallaxes of Hyades Cluster Members: Cycle 4 High) 3.7 Complete WF/PC-2 5092 (GTO Low Latitude Parallel Program: Cycle 4) 3.8 Complete FGS 5583 (Long Term Stability Monitoring the FGS#3) 3.9 Complete WF/PC-2 5372 (HST Medium- Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, Low Galactic Latitude) 3.10 Complete WF/PC-2 4709 (WF/PC-2 Internal Monitor) 3.11 Complete FGS 5331 (Linking the HIPPARCOS to the Extragalactic Reference Frame, FT0-11, Part 7) 4.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 4.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 4.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 5.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
