HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1083 PERIOD COVERED: 0700 EST Daily Status Report as of 056/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed FOS/RD 5614 (SMOV FOS/FGS Fine Alignment (1.0 Reference)) The Faint Object Spectrograph was used to make spectral observations of the cluster NGC-188-225 to help determine the location of the 1.0 arcsecond aperture for both the Red and Blue Sides. A total of 12 observations were received and displayed. There was a recentering event and some discrepancies were reported during the observations. An acquisition image was severely distorted by the motion. Analysis of the data is pending. 1.2 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5212 (Globular Cluster Formation in Cooling Flow or Interacting Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the globular cluster ABEL-1795 to obtain some insight into the clusters formation mechanism. The baseline guide star acquisition got fine lock, and nine observations were received and displayed. Numerous recentering events were reported to have occurred during the observations. 1.3 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5240 (SMOV-WFPC-2 Flat Fields Calibration) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a set of visual internal flat images. Five images were received and displayed. Two were reported to be underexposed, and the others were okay. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5436 (Age and Population of Super Metal Rich Globular Clusters) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the super metal rich globular cluster NGC-6553 located in the central bulge of our galaxy. The hope is to determine the age of this cluster. The observations were monitored in the OSS, and the data quality was assessed. No anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5204 (The Disks Around Young Stellar Objects ) The WF/PC-2 Camera was used to make observations of the variable proto star HL-TAURI located in the Taurus molecular cloud to examine the disk known to be around this stellar object. It is hoped that this will determine the physical properties, albedo, particle size, and its spatial distribution of particles in the disk. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed FGS 5587 (Parallaxes of Hyades Cluster Members: Cycle 4 High) The Fine Guidance Sensor #3 was used to used to make astrometric parallax observations of star PCEN-662 which is located in the Hyades open cluster. This is to help compute the distance modulus of the cluster. The astrometric observations were monitored in the OSS when telemetry was available. No anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5092 (GTO Low Latitude Parallel Program: Cycle 4) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations taken in parallel with the prime science observations. This is part of a survey to take a large number of fields within 30 degrees of the galactic plan. The intent is to determine the luminosity function of low mass stars and the mass density in the solar neighborhood. The images were received as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed FGS 5583 (Long Term Stability Monitoring the FGS#3) The Fine Guidance Sensor #3 was used to monitor the optical field angle distortion by making astrometric observations of star OF55-REF which is located in the open cluster M-35. The astrometric observations were monitored, and no problems were seen in the telemetry. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5372 (HST Medium- Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, Low Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 was used to make low galactic latitude observations taken in parallel with the prime science observations. Several different filters were used. The observations were completed as scheduled in fine lock, and no anomalies were noted. 1.10 Completed WF/PC-2 4709 (WF/PC-2 Internal Monitor) The WF/PC camera was used to make a series of routine ultraviolet flat calibration images to monitor the instrument's performance. The observations were monitored in the OSS, and the data quality was assessed. No anomalies were noted. 1.11 Completed FGS 5331 (Linking the HIPPARCOS to the Extragalactic Reference Frame, FT0-11, Part 7) Fine Guidance Sensor #3 was used to make astrometric observations of star 0912+297-IN and a nearby extragalactic object which is known to have a small angular separation. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled :16 Successful :16 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: SMOV activities are being performed smoothly, as all HST subsystems continue to report nominal operations. 3.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED FOR NEXT REPORTING PERIOD: 3.1 Complete WF/PC-2 5369 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium High Galactic Latitude) 3.2 Complete WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) 3.3 Complete Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5234 (Faint Clusters of Galaxies (WC09) Cycle 4) 3.4 Complete Four Sets of WF/PC-2 5240 (SMOV-WF/PC-2 Flat Fields Calibrations) 3.5 Complete WF/PC-2 4709 (WF/PC-2 Internal Monitor) 3.6 Complete WF/PC-2 5355 (The Binary Frequency Among Solar Type Stars in Young Clusters: Cycle 4) 3.7 Complete FGS 5586 (Parallax of Hyades Cluster Members: Cycle 4 High) 3.8 Complete Three Sets of WF/PC-2/FGS 5092 (GTO Low Latitude Parallel Program: Cycle 4 High) 3.9 Complete FGS 5336 (Linking HIPPARCOS to the Extragalactic Reference Frame: NEWHIP-3) 3.10 Complete WF/PC-2 5482 (High Resolution Imagery of the Recurrent Nova T Pyx's Next Eruption) 3.11 Complete WF/PC-2 5122 (M-87's Jet, Nucleus, and Hot Corona (FOS No. 12):Cycle 4 Observations) 3.12 Complete WF/PC-2 5436 (Age and Populations of Super Metal Rich Globular Clusters) 3.13 Complete Two Sets of FGS 5587 (Parallaxes of Hyades Cluster Members: Cycle 4 High: Part Two) 3.14 Complete WF/PC-2 4763 (WF/PC-2 QE and Throughput Measurement) 4.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 4.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 4.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 5.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
