HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1085 PERIOD COVERED: 0700 EST Daily Status Report as of 060/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed FOS/RD/BL 4774 (SMOV FOS Internal Monitor) The Faint Object Spectrograph was used on both the Red and Blue Sides to make a set of internal wavelength calibration images as part of the SMOV program. All standard gratings were used with different apertures. Eight observations were received and displayed. They were reported to look okay. 1.2 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 4709 (WF/PC-2 Internal Monitor) The WF/PC camera was used to make a series of routine bias, K-Spot and internal flat calibration images to monitor the instrument's performance. Eight observations were monitored in the OSS, and the data quality was assessed. No anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed FGS 5331 (Linking the HIPPARCOS to the Extragalactic Reference Frame, FT0-11, Part 7) Fine Guidance Sensor #3 was used to make astrometric observations of stars 1150+497IN, 2541-REF, and INCA-221-73 and a nearby extragalactic object which is known to have a small angular separation. The observations were monitored, and no anomalies were seen in the telemetry. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5370 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel with the prime science observations to make high galactic latitude observations as part of a medium-deep sky survey. The main purpose of these observations is to study the evolution and structure of galaxies. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed FOS/BL 4773 (SMOV COSTAR/FOS Sensitivity MST) The Faint Object spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make observations of standard star WD0501+527 to measure the absolute sensitivity of the FOS detectors. The observations were completed in fine lock as expected. The observations were executed without apparent anomaly. There was one FGS recentering event which was reported to have occurred during the observations. 1.6 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 5240 (SMOV-WF/PC-2 Flat Fields Calibration) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a visual internal flat image. The image was received and displayed. It was reported to be okay. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5092 (GTO Low Latitude Parallel Program: Cycle 4) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations taken in parallel with the prime science observations. This is part of a survey to take a large number of fields within 30 degrees of the galactic plan. The intent is to determine the luminosity function of low mass stars and the mass density in the solar neighborhood. The observations were monitored in the OSS, and the data quality was assessed. No anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed FOS/RD 4776 (FOS SMOV Spectral Flat Fields) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make observations of white dwarf star G191B2B (aka WD0501+527) which is known to have a hot hydrogen atmosphere and a relatively featureless ultraviolet spectrum. These observations will help provide a flat field calibration of the system. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 4 Successful : 4 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 9 Successful : 9 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled :6 Successful :6 2.4 Operations Notes: During the past 24 hours, there were no reported HST subsystem anomalous behavior. All SMOV activities proceeded nominally. Early in the day, the secondary mirror was successfully repositioned in conjunction with the WF/PC-2 fine alignment proposal. 3.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED FOR NEXT REPORTING PERIOD: 3.1 Complete Three Sets of WF/PC-2 5240 (SMOV-WF/PC-2 Flat field Calibration) 3.2 Complete Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5092 (GTO Low Latitude Parallel Program: Cycle 4) 3.3 Complete Two Sets of FOS/RD 4776 (FOS SMOV Spectral Flat Fields) 3.4 Complete WF/PC-2 4709 (WF/PC-2 Internal monitor) 3.5 Complete FOS/RD 4773 (SMOV COSTAR/FOS Sensitivity MST) 4.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 4.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 4.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 5.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
