HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1090 PERIOD COVERED: 0700 EST Daily Status Report as of 067/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 4709 (WF/PC-2 Internal Monitor) The WF/PC camera was used to make a series of routine bias and internal flat calibration images to monitor the instrument's performance. Eight observations were monitored in the OSS, and the data quality was assessed. During a tape recorder track change one chip's worth of exposure was lost. An HSTAR was written. No other anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5090 (Large Area/Multicolor Survey - Cycle 4) The WF/PC-2 was used to make deep exposure images of field #1417 as part of a large area high galactic latitude multicolor sky survey to learn more about the distribution of galaxies, their morphology, distribution in magnitude and redshift, and evolution of galactic luminosity function and colors. A total of 16 observations were received and displayed. Aside from some recenterings, no other anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5570 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Earth Flats, Large Set) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a set of Earth flat calibration images using different filters in order to construct high quality flat fields of the OTA illumination pattern. A total of eight images were received and displayed. One image was saturated, three were underexposed, and the others were okay. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5563 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Photometric Calibration Monitor 1: UV /OPT STD.) The WF/PC-2 was used to make photometric calibration images of ultraviolet standard star GRW+70D582 to monitor the photometric stability and quantum efficiency of the WF/PC-2. 14 images were taken, and seven still remain on the science tape recorder. No anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5560 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 1) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several internal bias, K-Spot, and flat calibration observations to monitor the CCD camera electronics, the optical alignment, and for contamination. A total of ten images were taken. Seven were received and displayed, and three remain on the science tape recorder. No anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5240 (SMOV-WF/PC-2 Flat Fields Calibration) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a set of visual internal visual flat images. The observations were monitored in the OSS, and the data quality was assessed. No anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxy 3C370.1 as part of a continuum survey and to study the galaxy's morphology. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed FOC/96 5392 (Mapping Io's Surface and Volcanic Activities: Cycle 4 Medium) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of the surface of Jupiter's moon Io to study changes since the Voyager Mission and before the Galileo Mission. A corrective SIP maneuver was successfully uplinked to the spacecraft. There was a recentering event which occurred just the SIP was completed. There was a large oscillation in roll, which appeared to have damped out when the first observation began. No other anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 9 Successful : 9 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled :8 Successful :8 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: SMOV activities accomplished last week included: WF/PC-2 flat fields calibration, QE and throughput measurements, and the repeat of fine alignment and focus operations which required large moves of the OTA secondary mirror; and FOS internal wavelength calibration, sensitivity measurements, and spectral flat fields and resolution measurements. For the past 24 hours, there have been no reported problems with any SMOV operation or with any HST subsystem. 3.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED FOR NEXT REPORTING PERIOD: 3.1 Complete WF/PC-2 5090 (Large Area/Multicolor Survey : Cycle 4) 3.2 Complete WF/PC-2 5562 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor 3: Darks) 3.3 Complete Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) 3.4 Complete Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5240 (SMOV-WF/PC-2 Flat Fields Calibration) 3.5 Complete WF/PC-2 5206 (The Crab Nebula) 3.6 Complete FGS 4892 (Duplicity Among Hyades Stars: Cycle 3 High) 4.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 4.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 4.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 5.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
