HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1094 PERIOD COVERED: 0700 EST Daily Status Report as of 073/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5560 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 1 ) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several internal flats, and K-Spots calibration observations to monitor the CCD camera electronics, the optical alignment, and for contamination. The OSS monitored the observations, and assessed the data quality. No anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 5090 (Large Area/Multicolor Survey: Cycle 4) The WF/PC-2 was used to make deep exposure iges o field #1417 part of a large area high galactic latitude multicolor sky survey to learn more about the distribution of galaxies, their morphology, distribution in magnitude and redshift, and evolution of galactic luminosity function and colors. A total of 17 images were reported to have been received and displayed. Several recentering events were reported to have occurred. No other anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshot of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxies 3C133.0, 3C35.0, and 3C69.0 as part of a continuum survey and to study the galaxies' morphology. Four images were received and displayed. They all were reported to look okay. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5611 (A Photometric Search for Planets of Nearby Stars: Epsilon Eridani) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the star Epsilon Eridani (aka, HD22049) using several different filters to search for a faint companion. A total of five observations were received and displayed. There was one reported recentering event. No other anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 5240 (SMOV-WF/PC-2 Flat Fields Calibration) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a set of visual internal flat images. 12 images were received and displayed. They were reported to be okay. Two images still remain on the science tape recorder. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 4709 (WF/PC-2 Internal Monitor) The WF/PC camera was used to make a series of routine ultraviolet flat calibration images to monitor the instrument's performance. The observations were monitored in the OSS, and the data quality was assessed. No anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5562 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor 3: Darks) The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain several 30 minute long dark exposures to provide ongoing calibration of the CCD dark current and to monitor and characterize the evolution of hot pixels. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed FOS/RD/BL 5617 (SMOV FOS Plate Scale) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red and Blues Sides) was used to make plate scale observations using NGC-188-255 as a target. The onboard target acquisition was successful, and the observations were reported to show good images. However, this proposal was reported to have been implemented incorrectly. It was reported that each dwell scan will produce two images per line, rather than the five images expected. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5369 (HST Medium-Deep Survey Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 made a series of observations of high latitude objects as part of a medium deep sky survey. The observations were taken in parallel with other prime science observations. Two observations were received and displayed. The first observations were reported to have had several recentering events. 1.10 Completed WF/PC-2 5570 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Earth Flats, Large Set) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a set of Earth flat calibration images using different filters in order to construct high quality flat fields of the OTA illumination pattern. A total of eight ima were received and displayed. Four iges were saturated, two were underexposed, and two were reported to be okay. 1.11 Completed WF/PC-2 5612 (SMOV WF/PC-2 Decontamination) The WF/PC-2 was used to do decontamination operations. Observations of standard A+81D266, and K-Spot observations were also taken. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.12 Completed FGS 4892 (Duplicity Among Hyades Stars: Cycle 3 High) The FGSs were used to make astrometric observations of the possible binary star VA72 which is located in the Hyades open cluster. The OSS monitored the observation, nd no anomalies were reported. 1.13 Completed WF/PC-2 5392 (Mapping Io's Surface and Volcanic Activity: Cycle 4 Medium) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of the surface of Jupiter's moon Io at the longitude of 045 degrees to study changes since the Voyager Mission and before the Galileo Mission. The observations were monitored in the OSS. No anomalies were noted. 1.14 Complete WF/PC-2 4763 (WF/PC-2 QE and Throughput Measurement) The WF/PC-2 was used to make ultraviolet exposures of the UV flux-standard star BD+75D325 to be used for alignment studies. The OSS monitored the observations, and assessed the data quality. 14 images were received and displayed. One image was reported to look smeared in compariso to th images made using other filters. The star's light spread out over a larger area. There were no recentering events during this observation. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 23 Successful : 23 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 25 Successful : 25 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled :41 Successful :40 FHST 1 and 2 failed to perform a roll delay update at 073/0555Z during LOS.
