HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1103 PERIOD COVERED: 0700 EST Daily Status Report as of 084/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Two Sets of GHRS/2 5596 (GHRS Side 2 Sensitivity Calibration (1st Order Gratings): Cycle 4) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to measure its sensitivity to provide information on temporal variations in throughput since the installation of COSTAR. Observations were made of the standard test object MU-COLUMBIA. All of the observations were received and displayed in the OSS. They were reported to be okay. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 4709 (WF/PC-2 Internal Monitor) The WF/PC-2 camera was used to make a series of routine ultraviolet flat calibration images to monitor the instrument's performance. The observations were monitored in the OSS, and the data quality was assessed. The internal flats were received and examined. It was reported that "worms" are still visible. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5176 (Lyman-Alpha Region of QSOs With Strong Absorption Lines: Cycle 4) The WF/PC-2 was used to examine to Lyman-Alpha emission regions around quasar 3C196. A SIP corrective maneuver was successfully uplinked to the spacecraft. The images were received and reported to look very nice. 1.4 Completed FOC/96 5517 (FOC Absolute Sensitivity: Cycle 4) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make absolute sensitivity measurements using standard ultraviolet target star HZ4. The decision observation was received in real time without problems. A SIP corrective maneuver was successfully uplinked to the spacecraft. The observations were executed in fine lock. Some recentering events were reported after a subsequent reacquisition. The data has been received in the OSS, and is still being analyzed. No anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed Two Set of WF/PC-2 5370 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel with the prime science observations to make high galactic latitude observations as part of a medium-deep sky survey. The main purpose of these observations is to study the evolution and structure of galaxies. The observations were received and displayed in the OSS. A few recentering events were reported. No other anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5091 (GTO High Latitude Parallel Program: Cycle 4) The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel with the prime science observations to make high galactic latitude observations greater than +/-30 degrees. These are randomly chosen fields to sample very low luminosity stars in the solar galactic neighborhood, galactic halo objects, and distant galaxies. The observations have proceeded without apparent incident, except for a few recenterings. Data has been received from the science tape recorder, but not yet examined. 1.7 Completed GHRS/1 5592 (GHRS ECH-A Sensitivity Calibration: Cycle 4) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Echelle-A) was used to make observations of ultraviolet standard star MU-COLUMBIA to make sensitivity calibration measurements. The baseline guide star acquisition got fine lock, and the shutter opened. The 5X5 spiral search apparently succeeded, but only 238 counts were in the target search flux. There was a carrousel reset error, but the carrousel did subsequently attain lock. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 3 Successful : 3 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 11 Successful : 11 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled :12 Successful :12 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: Operations personnel report that there have been no anomalous behavior in any HST subsystem. 3.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED FOR NEXT REPORTING PERIOD: 3.1 Complete WF/PC-2 5504 (Structure of HERBIG-HARO Jets From New Born Stars: Cycle 4 High) 3.2 Complete WF/PC-2 5475 (A Snapshot Survey For Blue Stragglers in Magellanic Cluster Cores) 3.3 Complete WF/PC-2 5565 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4: Photometric Calibration: Fields) 3.4 Complete GHRS/2 5600 (GHRS Side 2 Wavelength Monitor (1ST Order Grating): Cycle 4) 3.5 Complete Three Sets of WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) 3.6 Complete FOC/96 5517 (FOC Absolute Sensitivity: Cycle 4) 3.7 Complete Three Sets of 5370 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) 3.8 Complete WF/PC-2 5109 (A Deep Survey at High Galactic Latitudes (WC06): Cycle 4) 3.9 Complete GHRS/1 5277 (GHRS Side 1 Spectral Lamp Tests: Cycle 4) 4.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 4.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 4.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 5.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
