HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1122 PERIOD COVERED: 0700 EST Daily Status Report as of 111/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Five Sets of WF/PC-2 5561 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 2: Flats) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a set of internal dark and a visual flat calibration image to monitor flat field stability and the stability of the analog-to-digital converters. The observations were monitored by the OSS. The Dark calibration image was reported to be nominal. Three of the visual flat calibration images were reported to be saturated. 1.2 Completed Two Sets of GHRS/1 5595 (GHRS ECH-A Wavelength Monitor: Cycle 4) The High Resolution Spectrograph was used to make wavelength spectral lamp calibration observations to measure the instrumental characteristics of the Echelle-A spectrograph. The observations were received and displayed in the OSS. They were reported to look okay. 1.3 Completed FGS 5338 (Linking the HIPPARCOS to the Extragalactic Reference Frame NEWHIP-D) The FGSs were used to make astrometric observations of the extra-galactic object NEWEGOD-60. These observations are to help tie the HIPPARCOS and extra-galactic reference frames together at the 0.0005 arcsecond and 0.0005 arcsecond/year level. The baseline guide-star acquisition and most of the astrometric observations occurred during LOS. The OSS did see fine lock near the end of the orbit. No anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5369 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 made a series of observations of high latitude objects as part of a medium deep sky survey. Several different filters were used. The observations were taken in parallel with other prime science observations. The baseline guide-star acquisition and most of the 30 minute long exposure occurred during LOS. However, the OSS did see fine lock and the shutters open. No anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5178 (Imaging of Distant Active Galaxies: Cycle 4) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the inner regions of quasi-stellar object 2201+315. This object has been only partially resolved from ground based operations. Both the baseline guide star acquisition and the reacquisition achieved fine lock. No anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxy 3C173.0 as part of a continuum survey and to study the galaxy's morphology. The images were received and displayed in the OSS. The observations complete without apparent incident. 1.7 Completed GHRS/2 5398 (Eclipse Mapping of the Chromospheric and Transition Region Structure) The High Resolution Spectrograph was used to obtain high signal to noise ratio spectra of the eclipsing binary star HR2554 (aka, HD50337) which is a known Zeta Aurigae-Type binary star. This system consists of a dwarf star and a G6 giant star. The light from the dwarf will be used as a probe of the outer atmosphere of the giant star. The baseline guide star acquisition failed. The search limit radius was exceeded on the FGS #3. The observation was listed as failed. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5475 (A Snapshot Survey of Blue Stragglers in Magellanic Cluster Cores) The WF/PC-2 was used to make short exposure snapshot images of the blue straggler stars located in populous cluster NGC-2004. A populous cluster is the Magellanic Cloud equivalent of a galactic globular cluster. The observations were made with two different color filters. The intent is to find out if blue straggler stars exist within these clusters. The observations are being analyzed. No anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed GHRS/2 5597 (GHRS/ ECH-B Sensitivity Calibration: Cycle 4) The High Resolution Spectrograph was used to make calibration observations using standard star MU-Columbia to calibrate the sensitivity of Echelle-B. Both the Large Science Aperture (LSA) and Small Science Aperture (SSA) were used. The observations are being analyzed, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMERY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 5 Successful : 3 One wrong guide star used, and one failed acquisition. Scheduled Reacquisitions : 5 Successful : 4 Three reacquisitions failed to course track, and one failed reacquisition. 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled :24 Successful :19 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: An incorrect HGBU was uplinked at 111/0032Z, causing an impact on some observations. (See Item 1.7) The HST onboard subsystems experienced no anomalous activity during the past 24 hours. 3.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED FOR NEXT REPORTING PERIOD: 3.1 Complete WF/PC-2 5475 (A Snapshot Survey for Blue Stragglers in Magellanic Cluster Cores)) 3.2 Complete Three Sets of WF/PC-2 5561 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor 2.
