HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1128 PERIOD COVERED: 0700 EST Daily Status Report as of 119/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxies 3C277.0 and 3C322.0 as part of a continuum survey and to study the galaxies' morphology. Five images were received and displayed. No anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5397 (Determination of the Extragalactic Distance Scale: Cycle 4 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make an image of galaxy NGC-5457-FL to help establish the Hubble constant to an accuracy of better than 10% by measuring the periods of Cepheid variable stars within the galaxies. The image was received and displayed. There was some recentering reported. No other anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5632 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4: Preflash Test) The WF/PC-2 Was used to study variations in sensitivity along the columns of each CCD by making images of test globular cluster Omega Centauri (aka, NGC-5139). Nine images were received and displayed. No anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5561 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 2: Flats) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a ultraviolet flat calibration image to monitor flat field stability and the stability of the analog-to-digital converters. The observation was monitored by the OSS, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed FGS 5333 (Linking the HIPPARCOS to the Extragalactic Reference Frame, BR12-23, Part 2) The FGSs were used to obtain astrometric observations on several stars whose apparent positions lie near extragalactic objects. Six astrometric observations were monitored in real-time. All six targets were located by the FGSs. 1.6 Completed FGS 5174 (Astrometric Companion Search: Cycle 4) FGS #3 was used to make astrometric observations of the possible binary dwarf star AC+48D1595 to look for an astrometric unseen low mass companion. There was real-time telemetry for all but the middle ten minutes of the continuous scans. The scans proceeded with no apparent problems. There was a recentering event at about 2/3 of the way through the observation. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5091 (GTO High Latitude Parallel Program: Cycle 4) The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel with the prime science observations to make high galactic latitude observations greater than +/-30 degrees. The OSS monitored three observations. No anomalies were noted. Analysis is pending display of the data. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5570 (WF/PC-2 cycle 4 Calibration: Earthflats, Large Set) The WF/PC-2 was used to make an Earth flat calibration images. Eight images were executed and received. One image was displayed, and was reported to be saturated. The other seven images were received too late in the shift to be examined. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5378 (Morphological Evolution of Galaxies in Clusters at Z = 0.5) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of galaxy GAL-CLUS-0 to study its morphology. One observation was executed in fine lock. There were a couple of recenterings. No other problems were noted. Complete analysis is pending the dump of Science Tape Recorder #3. 1.10 Completed GHRS/2 5422 (Neutral Gas in Blue Compact Galaxies: Population III or Recent Pollution) The High Resolution Spectrograph was used to make measurements of the metallicity of the H II regions in blue compact galaxy UGC-5720. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled :13 Successful :13 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: No significant problems were encountered during the past operational day in any HST subsystem. 3.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED FOR NEXT REPORTING PERIOD: 3.1 Complete WF/PC-2 5560 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 1) 3.2 Complete Four Sets of WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) 3.3 Complete GHRS/2 5599 (GHRS Side 2 Sensitivity Monitor: Cycle 4) 3.4 Complete WF/PC-2 5561 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 2: Flats) 3.5 Complete S/C 4435 (Spacecraft Disturbance Test) 3.6 Complete WF/PC-2 5570 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Earthflats, Large Set) 3.7 Complete WF/PC-2 5563 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Photometric Calibration Monitor. 1 UV/OPT STD.) 3.8 Complete FGS 4884 (High Speed Astrometry: A Search for Planetary Companions to Low Mass Stars) 3.9 Complete WF/PC-2 5092 (GTO Low Latitude Parallel Program: Cycle 4) 3.10 Complete GHRS/2 5323 (Atmospheric Dynamics and Mass Loss in Gappers, Clumper, and Hybrids) 4.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 4.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 4.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 5.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
