HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1135 PERIOD COVERED: 0700 EST Daily Status Report as of 130/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Three sets of WF/PC-2 5375 (High Resolution Images of Virgo Galaxies With Kinematically Distance Cores) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of galaxies NGC-4450, NGC-4526, and NGC-4569 which are located in the Virgo Cluster. The first two observations were received and displayed in the OSS. They both contained six images, and were reported to be nominal. The third set of observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed GHRS/1 5417 (A Search for the Physical Processes Responsible for the Jovian Equator....) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used as part of a program to observe atomic hydrogen emission at different latitudes and longitudes on the planet Jupiter. A total of five images were received and displayed. They were reported to be nominal. A wave calibration and sky background observations were made. 1.3 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 5397 (Determination fo the Extragalactic Distance Scale: Cycle 4 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of galaxy NGC-4321 to be used to measure the periods of Cepheid variable stars within the galaxies. Two images were received and displayed. Both were nominal. There were some reported recenterings. A subsequent observation of galaxy NGC-5457-FL remains on Science Tape Recorder #1, and will be analyzed later. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5570 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Earthflats, Large Set) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a set of Earth flat calibration images using different filters in order to construct high quality flat fields of the OTA illumination pattern. A total of eight images were received and displayed. The SI reported some FHST updates failures (See Section 2.1), but no other anomalies. Two images were nominal, and the others were underexposed. 1.5 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5446 (The Nuclei of Nearby S0 and Spiral Galaxies: A PC Snapshot Imaging ...) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of galaxy NGC-4526. The observations were executed as scheduled. Two images were received and displayed. they were reported to be nominal. Observations of galaxy NGC-4448 still remain on Science Tape Recorder #1, and will be analyzed later. 1.6 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5481 (Ages of the Outermost Globular Clusters: The Formation of the Galactic...) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of a globular cluster known as PAL-4-NORTH. One observations was received and displayed. It was reported to be nominal. More data still remains on Science Tape Recorder #1, and will be analyzed later. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5560 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 1) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several internal bias calibration observations. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 4 Successful : 4 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled :21 Successful :20 Fixed Head Star Tracker update failure at 129/1341Z. 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: No significant onboard problems were encountered in any HST subsystem during the last twenty-four hours. 3.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED FOR NEXT REPORTING PERIOD: 3.1 Complete Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5570 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Earthflats, Large Set) 3.2 Complete Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5562 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor 3: Darks) 3.3 Complete Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5446 (The Nuclei of Nearby S0 and Spiral Galaxies: A PC Snapshot Imaging ....) 3.4 Complete WF/PC-2 5481 (Ages of the Outermost Globular Clusters: The Formation of the ......) 3.5 Complete WF/PC-2 5465 (WF/PC-2 Imaging of Two Galactic Cluster at Z = 1.2) 4.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 4.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 4.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 5.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Plans to operationally handle today's solar eclipse have been prepared and approved. /DMH -END-
