HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1142 PERIOD COVERED: 0700 EST Daily Status Report as of 139/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of galaxy MARK1330. Three observations were received and displayed. They were reported to be nominal. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5640 (Cycle 4 DD HST Observations of Comet Shoemaker-Levy (1993E)) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations to help study the comet Shoemaker-Levy and the planet Jupiter. Four observations were made of Jupiter. They were received and displayed in the OSS. One images was reported to be saturated, and the other three were nominal. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxy 3C257.0 as part of a continuum survey and to study the galaxy's morphology. Four images were received and displayed. Both were reported to look okay. 1.4 Completed GHRS/1 5417 (A Search for the Physical Processes on Jupiter) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used as part of a program to observe atomic hydrogen emission at different latitude and longitudes on the planet Jupiter. A total of three images were received and displayed. They were reported to be nominal. A wave calibration was made. More data still remains on the Science Tape Recorder, and will be analyzed later. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5303 (Calibration of Stellar Evolutionary Ages and Variations in the IMF) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of open cluster NGC-2420 to determine the luminosity function of the white dwarfs (WD) and low mass (i.e., red) stars. The observations were executed as scheduled, and the data remains of the Science Tape Recorder #1. It will be analyzed later. No anomalies were reported. 1.6 Completed FOS/RD 5441 (The Inner Regions of Quasars: Cycle 4) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make observations of the variable quasar 3C281. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies have been reported. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5369 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude.) The WF/PC-2 made a series of observations of high latitude objects as part of a medium deep sky survey. The observations were taken in parallel with other prime science observations. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies have been reported. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5570 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Earthflats, Large Set) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a set of Earth flat calibration images using different filters in order to construct high quality flat fields of the OTA illumination pattern. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies have been reported. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5446 (The Nuclei of Nearby S0 and Spiral Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the core region in galaxy NGC-4517. The observations were executed as scheduled. No anomalies were noted. 1.10 Completed GHRS/1 5317 (Searching for circumstellar Gas Around Low Mass Per-Main Sequence Stars) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make spectroscopic observations of the low mass, pre-main sequence star HD115043. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 10 Successful : 10 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled :10 Successful :10 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: A quiet operational day was experienced as no anomalous activity was reported in any HST subsystem. 3.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED FOR NEXT REPORTING PERIOD: 3.1 Complete WF/PC-2 5217 (Jupiter's Aurora and Airglow) 3.2 Complete GHRS/2 5473 (The Interstellar Abundance of Krypton: Cycle 4 High) 3.3 Complete WF/PC-2 5570 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Earthflats, Large Set) 3.4 Complete WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs) 3.5 Complete WF/PC-2 5396 (The Formation of Globular Clusters During Mergers) 3.6 Complete WF/PC-2 5375 (High Resolution Images of Virgo Galaxies with Kinematically Distinct Cores) 4.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 4.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 4.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 5.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
