HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1144 PERIOD COVERED: 0700 EST Daily Status Report as of 143/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5560 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 1) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several internal bias, K-Spot, and flat calibration observations to monitor the CCD camera electronics, the optical alignment, and for contamination. A total of ten images was taken. Some of the Bias exposures show a slight density gradient across the images, especially in CCD #3. The internal flats and K-spot exposures were normal. 1.2 Completed GHRS/1 5373 (Excitation Processes for the Ultraviolet Dayglow of Jupiter: Cycle 4) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make observations looking for molecular hydrogen emissions in the Jovian equatorial atmosphere. Four observations were executed as scheduled, and they were reported to look okay. 1.3 Completed FGS 5333 (Linking the HIPPARCOS to the Extragalactic Reference Frame BR12-23, Part 2) The FGSs were used to obtain astrometric observations on several stars whose apparent positions lie near extragalactic objects. The astrometric observations were monitored while telemetry was available. Most of the observations appeared to succeed, but at least two of them ended with a Stop Flag being set. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structures in Nearby AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of galaxy NGC-5757. Two observations were received and displayed. They were reported to look fine. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5218 (Io's Interactions With the Jovian Plasma Torus) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations as part of a proposal to study the Moon IO and its immediate vicinity. A total of 26 observations were received and displayed. They were reported to all look okay. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5397 (Determination of the Extragalactic Distance Scale: Cycle 4 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of galaxy NGC-4321 to be used in measuring the periods of Cepheid variable stars within the galaxy. Two images were received and displayed, and they were reported to look fine. 1.7 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 5481 (Ages for the Outermost Globular Clusters) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of a globular cluster known as NGC-2419-SO. A total of fifteen observations were executed. Thirteen of the observations were received and displayed, and they were reported to be okay. Two observations remain on the Science Tape Recorder, and will be analyzed later. No anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5446 (The Nuclei of Nearby S0 and Spiral Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of galaxy NGC-2683. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed GHRS/2 5597 (GHRS ECH-B Sensitivity Calibration: Cycle 4) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) made observations of the standard star Mu-Columbae to help calibrate the sensitivity of the Echelle-B. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.10 Completed WF/PC-2 1070 (High Resolution Imaging of Radio Galaxies at Large Redshift) The WF/PC-2 was used to make deep images of radio galaxy 3C239. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.11 Completed WF/PC-2 5465 (WF/PC-2 Imaging of Two Galaxy Cluster at Z=1.2) The WF/PC-2 was used to make deep images of galaxy cluster 3C324 at Z=1.2. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.12 Completed WF/PC-2 5570 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Earthflats, Large Set) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a set of Earth flat calibration images using different filters in order to construct high quality flat fields of the OTA illumination pattern. A total of eight images was received and displayed. Four exposures were reported to be okay, two were underexposed, and two were saturated. 1.13 Completed FOS/RD 5579 (Cycle 4 Test: To Determine FOS Polarimetry Mode) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make internal calibration observations of its polarization capabilities. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.14 Completed FGS 5510 (Mass Ratio Determination for Doubles with Substellar Mass Members) The Fine Guidance Sensors were used to make astrometric observations of binary star L722-22-00. The astrometric observations were monitored, and no problems were seen. The co-investigator was present to monitor the observations. 1.15 Completed WF/PC-2 5370 (HST Medium_Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude; CR-SPLIT) The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel with the prime science observations to make high galactic latitude observations as part of a medium-deep sky survey. The observations were executed as scheduled, and the observations still remain on Science Tape Recorder #3. They will be analyzed later. No anomalies were noted. 1.16 Completed WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxy 3C9.0 as part of a continuum survey and to study the galaxy's morphology. The observations were executed as scheduled, and the observations still remain on Science Tape Recorder #3. They will be analyzed later. No anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 17 Successful : 17 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 26 Successful : 26 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled :35 Successful :35 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: During the weekend period, each HST subsystem experienced anomaly-free operations. 3.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED FOR NEXT REPORTING PERIOD: 3.1 Complete FOS/BL 5649 (SMOV FOS/FGS Fine Alignment Paired Apertures, Repeat) 3.2 Complete WF/PC-2 5454 (Ellipticals with Kinematically Distinct Cores: Cycle 4 Medium) 3.3 Complete WF/PC-2 5475 (A Snapshot Survey for Blue Stragglers in Magellanic Cluster Cores) 3.4 Complete WF/PC-2 5561 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 2: Flats) 3.5 Complete S/C 4974 (DF-224 FS Installation 9.0 and Higher) 4.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 4.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 4.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 5.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
