HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1148 PERIOD COVERED: 0700 EST Daily Status Report as of 147/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5561 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 2: Flats) The WF/PC-2 was used to make ultraviolet and visual flat calibration images to monitor flat field stability and the stability of the analog-to-digital converters. The ultraviolet flat was reported to show "worms", and the other five observations were reported to be saturated. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5562 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor 3: Darks) The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain two 30-minute long, dark exposures to provide ongoing calibration of the CCD dark current and to monitor and characterize the evolution of hot pixels. Both observations were received and displayed in the OSS. They both were reported to look nominal. 1.3 Completed FOS/RD 5536 (Cycle 4 FOS Wavelength Calibration: Internal/External Offsets) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) made both internal and external wavelength calibration observations. NGC-6833 was the external source. The baseline guide-star acquisition achieved fine lock before a LOS. The first peakup and most of the second one occurred during LOS. No anomalies were noted. Most of the data still remains on Science Tape Recorder #3, and will be analyzed later. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5369 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 made an observation of high latitude objects as part of a medium deep sky survey. The observation was taken in parallel with other prime science observations. The observation was reported to be nominal. Other observations were taken as scheduled, and the data remains on Science Tape Recorder #3. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5415 (The Distance to the M-96 Galaxy Group: Cycle 4 Medium) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of Cepheid variable stars within the galaxy UGC-5889 which itself is located in the M-96 galaxy cluster. This is to help determine the distance to this galactic group, and to improve the determination of the Hubble constant. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5427 (Calibration of Nearby Galaxy Type IA Supernovae as Standard Candles) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of nearby galaxy NGC-4496-A-F as part of an effort to find Cepheids which have produced type I supernovae. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations to study the nearby active galactic nuclei of MARK-1210. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5208 (Star Formation Histories and Stellar Populations in the Local Group) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the Large Magellanic Cloud-Halo as part of a program to study stellar populations in the outer regions of galaxies. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 3 Successful : 3 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 11 Successful : 11 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled :5 Successful :5 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: During the past twenty-four hours, HST operations experienced nominal activity in each onboard subsystem. 3.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED FOR NEXT REPORTING PERIOD: 3.1 Complete WF/PC-2 5475 (A Snapshot Survey for Blue Stragglers in Magellanic Cluster Cores) 3.2 Complete WF/PC-2 5560 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 1) 3.3 Complete Four Sets of FOS/RD/BL 5532 (FOS Dark Monitoring) 3.4 Complete Five Sets of WF/PC-2 5570 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Earthflats, Large Set) 3.5 Complete FOC/96 5154 (FOC Observations of Elliptical galaxies) 3.6 Complete Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5091 (GTO High Latitude Parallel Program: Cycle 4 ) 3.7 Complete WF/PC-2 5572 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4: Photometric Filter Calibration) 3.8 Complete FGS 5336 (Linking the HIPPARCOS to the Extragalactic Reference Frame: NEWHIP-B) 3.9 Complete WF/PC-2 5565 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4: Photometric Calibration: Monitoring: Fields) 3.10 Complete Two Sets of GHRS/1 5417 (A Search for the Physical Processes on Jupiter) 3.11 Complete WF/PC-2 5563 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4: Photometric Calibration Monitor. 1: UV/OPT STD.) 3.12 Complete WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs) 3.13 Complete WF/PC-2 5454 (Ellipticals with Kinematically Distinct Cores: Cycle 4 Medium) 3.14 Complete WF/PC-2 5237 (Stellar Populations in Local Group Galaxies (WC13): Cycle 4) 3.15 Complete WF/PC-2 1070 (High Resolution Imaging of Radio Galaxies at Large Redshift) 3.16 Complete FGS 5174 (Astrometric Companion Search: Cycle 4) 3.17 Complete WF/PC-2 5308 (High Resolution PC Imaging of a Z=2.4 Galaxy: Cycle 4 Medium) 3.18 Complete GHRS/2 5549 (GHRS Side 2 Dark Noise Monitor: Cycle 4) 3.19 Complete WF/PC-2 5211 (High Resolution Imaging of Nearby Nuclear Starbursts) 4.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 4.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 4.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 5.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
