HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1158 PERIOD COVERED: 0700 EST Daily Status Report as of 164/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5465 (WF/PC-2 Imaging of Two Galaxy Clusters at Z=1.2) The WF/PC-2 was used to make deep images of galaxy cluster 3C324 at Z=1.2. The observations were executed as scheduled, and four observations were received and displayed in the OSS. They were reported to look okay. 1.2 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 5570 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Earthflats, Large Set) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a set of Earth flat calibration images using different filters in order to construct high quality flat fields of the OTA illumination pattern. A total of 11 images was received. Four of the images were reported to be saturated. Another four of the observations were reported to have had missing data. An expected track change of the Science Tape Recorder (STR) caused the data loss in one of the observations. In an attempt to received the rest of the missing data, an LOR of the STR #3 dump was requested. It was received, but there was even more missing data. The MOSES Shift Supervisor reported that NGT had reported a data dropout part way through the dump. So, it appears that the data cannot be recovered. The DCF was also missing data on the playback of the original dump and the LOR. 1.3 Completed Three Sets FOS/BL 5535 (Cycle 4 Internal Wavelength Calibration) The Faint Object Spectrograph was used to make internal calibration observations to monitor the stability of the wavelength scale for different gratings. Fourteen observations were received and displayed. They were reported to be okay. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5560 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 1) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several internal bias, K-Spot, and flat calibration observations to monitor the CCD camera electronics, the optical alignment, and to check for contamination. A total of ten images was taken. Four of the internal flat observations were reported to be underexposed. In addition, part of one of the observations was lost due to an expected STR track change. 1.5 Completed FOS/RD 5441 (The Inner Regions of Quasars) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make observations of the variable quasar PKS1656+05. The observations were executed as scheduled. Two observations were received and displayed. They were reported to look okay. The target was reported to be initially pretty well centered. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5369 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 made a observation of high latitude objects as part of a medium deep sky survey. The observation was taken in parallel with other prime science observations. It as received and displayed, and it was reported to look okay. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5643 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Partially Rotated Filters) The WF/PC-2 was used to make visual flat observations. The observations was executed as scheduled. Four observations were examined. As is usual with quadrant filters, portions of each image were underexposed, and portions were saturated. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 1070 (High Resolution Imaging of Radio Galaxies at Large Redshift) The WF/PC-2 was used to make deep images of radio galaxy 3C34. Four images were received and displayed. They all were reported to be okay. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a snapshot observation of the nearby active galactic nuclei of UM-146. The observation was received and displayed. It was reported to be okay. 1.10 Completed WF/PC-2 5446 (The Nuclei of Nearby S0 and Spiral Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of galaxy NGC-4380. The observations were executed as scheduled. Two observations were received and displayed. They both were reported to look okay. 1.11 Completed Two Set of FOS/BL 5528 (FOS Cycle 4 Focus, X-Pitch, and Y-Pitch) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Sides) was used to make both a TALED and WAVE calibration observations. No external sources were used. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.12 Completed WF/PC-2 5427 (Calibration of Nearby Galaxy Type IA Supernovae as Standard Candles) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of nearby galaxy NGC-4496-A-F as part of an effort to find Cepheids in this galaxy which has produced a Type I supernovae. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.13 Completed WF/PC-2 5568 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Decon) The WF/PC-2 was used to make an internal flat calibration observations as part of a decontamination operation. Eleven observations were received and displayed. They were reported to look okay. 1.14 Completed FOC/96 5139 (A Search to Low Mass Companions to Nearby Astrometic Binaries) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to to search for faint companions near the astrometric binary star GL-623. Two FOC images were received and displayed. They both were reported to look okay. 1.15 Completed GHRS/1 5541 (GHRS Side 1 Dark Noise Monitor: Cycle 4) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make routine detector dark noise calibration observations. These were internal tests and did not require any special pointing of the telescope. Sixteen observations were received and displayed. They were reported to look okay. 1.16 Completed FOS/BL 5536 (Cycle 4 FOS Wavelength Calibration: Internal/External Offsets) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) made both internal and external wavelength calibration observations. NGC-6833 was the external source. A total of 11 observations were received and displayed. They were reported to look okay. 1.17 Completed WF/PC-2 5092 ( Low Latitude Parallel Program: Cycle 4) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations taken in parallel with the prime science observations. This is part of a survey to take pictures of a large number of fields within 30 degrees of the galactic plane. Four images were received as scheduled, and they were reported to look okay. 1.18 Completed WF/PC-2 5655 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 2: Flats Part 2) The WF/PC-2 was used to make two ultraviolet flats. Both images were received and displayed. One image was reported to be saturated, and the other image was okay. 1.19 Completed FGS 5555 (15 Points of Light: Cycle 4 Calibration) FGS #3 was used to used to make astrometric observations of star UPGREN-69 to obtain reference Transfer Functions at 20 different points in the FGS.
