HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1169 PERIOD COVERED: 0700 EST Daily Status Report as of 179/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5397 (Determination fo the Extragalactic Distance Scale: Cycle 4 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of galaxy NGC-7331 to be used in measuring the periods of Cepheid variable stars within this galaxy. The images were received and displayed. They were reported to look okay. The first three images encountered some recenterings. 1.2 Completed FOS/BL 5364 (The UV spectral Components in RE1938-461, The Brightest ROSAT WFC disc) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make rapid mode ultraviolet observations of the polar-type cataclysmic variable star RE1938-461. Ten observations were received and displayed. They all were reported to look good, although it will be necessary to look at the tape recorded engineering data to be sure that the target acquisitions were completely successful. One more observation still remains on Science Tape Recorder #1, and will be analyzed later. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5369 (HST Medium Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude.) The WF/PC-2 made a series of observations of high latitude objects as part of a medium deep sky survey. The observations were taken in parallel with other prime science observations. The observations were executed as scheduled, and the data still remains on Science Tape Recorder #1. It will be analyzed later. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5560 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 1) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several internal bias, K-Spot, and flat calibration observations to monitor the CCD camera electronics, the optical alignment, and to check for contamination. A total of eight images was taken. They were reported to be nominal. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of the nearby active galactic nuclei of HEAO2106-0 and MARK896. The first observation remains on Science Tape Recorder #1, and will be analyzed later. The second observation was executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5221 (The Vertical Structure of the Atmosphere of Neptune) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the Planet Neptune to study the structure and composition of the clouds and haze in the upper regions of its atmosphere. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Complete WF/PC-2 5427 (Calibration of Nearby Galaxy Type IA Supernovae as Standard Candles) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of nearby galaxy NGC-4536-FI as part of an effort to find Cepheids in this galaxy which has produced a Type I supernovae. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 06 Successful : 06 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 10 Successful : 09 At 178.1115Z FGS #1 failed scan limit exceeded before locking in fine Lock 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled :13 Successful :13 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: During the past twenty-four hours, there have been no anomalous activity in any HST subsystem. 3.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 3.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 3.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 4.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: The uplink of the next Secondary Mirror move is scheduled for 180/1730Z. /DMH -END-
