HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1170 PERIOD COVERED: 0700 EST Daily Status Report as of 180/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 5221 (The Vertical Structure of the Atmosphere of Neptune) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the Planet Neptune to study the structure and composition of the clouds and haze in the upper regions of its atmosphere. The observations were executed as scheduled. During the first two sets of observations a total of ten images was received. They were reported to be okay. One of the observations encountered a recentering event. The third set of observations was executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed FOS/RD 5455 (The Level of Ionization and Chemical Composition of QSO BAL Region Gas) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make ultraviolet observations of quasi-stellar object (QSO) Q0059-2735 which is known to have broad absorption lines (BALs). The first observations was received in real-time, and it was reported to look okay. It located the target in seven groups. The next four observations were nominal. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5369 (HST Medium Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 made a series of observations of high latitude objects as part of a medium deep sky survey. The observations were taken in parallel with other prime science observations. Four observations were received and displayed. They were reported to look nominal. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of the nearby active galactic nuclei of SBS1122+61. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5427 (Calibration of Nearby Galaxy Type IA Supernovae as Standard Candles) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of nearby galaxy NGC-4496-A-F as part of an effort to find Cepheids in this galaxy which has produced a Type I supernovae. The observations were executed as scheduled, and observations remain on Science Tape Recorder #1. They will be analyzed later. No anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5494 (Stellar Winds of Massive Stars in Nearby Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of one bright star OB78-2 in galaxy M-33, and two bright stars OB21-1 and OB 2-4 in galaxy M-31. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5446 (The Nuclei of Nearby S0 and Spiral Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the core of nearby galaxy NGC-3189. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5419 (A Search for Very Low Luminosity Active Galactic Nuclei in nearby Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of galaxy NGC-4192, which is known to have a ultraviolet bright, low-luminosity, active galactic nuclei. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed GHRS/2 5360 (Mass Loss and Iron Curtain in Symbiotic Systems) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make observations of symbiotic system EG-And. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 10 Successful : 10 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled :17 Successful :17 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: HST operations personnel report no problems in any onboard subsystem.
