HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1171 PERIOD COVERED: 0700 EST Daily Status Report as of 181/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Two sets of WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxies 3C34.0 and 3C27.0 as part of a continuum survey and to study the galaxies' morphology. The observations were executed as scheduled, and the data remains of Science Tape Recorder #3. It will be analyzed later. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5454 (Ellipticals With Kinematically Distinct Cores: Cycle 4 Medium) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the small elliptical galaxy IC1459 which contains a massive core which is kinematically distinct from the rest of the galaxy. The observations were executed as scheduled. Fourteen observations were received and displayed. They were reported to be nominal. The 3X3 spiral search found the target on the sixth map. There were some recentering events reported. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5427 (Calibration of Nearby Galaxy Type IA Supernovae as Standard Candles) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of nearby galaxy NGC-4536-FI as part of an effort to find Cepheids in this galaxy which has produced a Type I supernovae. The observations were executed as scheduled. Two observations were received and displayed. They were reported to be okay. No anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed FOC/96 5330 (High Resolution Mapping of Pluto's Albedo Distribution) The Faint Object Camera was used to make observations of the planet Pluto and its moon Charon in two bandpasses. The observations were executed as scheduled, and the data remains on Science Tape Recorder #3. It will be analyzed later. No anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of the nearby active galactic nuclei of POX-52. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed FOS/RD 5539 (Cycle 4 FOS Photometric Monitor) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) used standard star BD+28D4211 to calibrate the absolute sensitivity of its detectors. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5570 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Earthflats, Large Set) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a set of Earth flat calibration images using different filters in order to construct high quality flat fields of the OTA illumination pattern. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5369 (HST Medium Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 made a series of observations of high latitude objects as part of a medium deep sky survey. The observations were taken in parallel with other prime science observations. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled :17 Successful :17 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: No anomalies were reported in any HST subsystem during the last 24 hours.
