HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1178 PERIOD COVERED: 0700 EST Daily Status Report as of 193/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5442 (Spectrophotometry and Imaging of Lensed, Clover Leaf)) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the gravitionally lensed quasi-stellar system Q1413+117 (aka. the Clover Leaf). The observations were executed as scheduled. Two observations were received and displayed. They were reported to be nominal. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5568 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Decon) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal flat, K-spot, and dark calibration observations as part of a decontamination operation. Eleven observations were received and displayed. They were reported to look okay. 1.3 Completed Two Sets of FGS 3856 (A Critical Test of the Galactic Escape Velocity at R(Sun)) FGS-3 were was to make parallax astrometric observations of star G166-37, and reference star G166B-REF. The astrometry was monitored while the telemetry was available. No problems were seen, except during the second set of observations, where a stop flag was set on FGS-3 while it was observing the target G166B-REF. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5662 (Cycle 4 DD HST Observations of Comet Shoemaker-Levy(9993) for July 1) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of the comet Shoemaker-Levy (SL-7) to help refine the size estimates of the various components of the comet train. The observations were executed as scheduled. Four observations were received and displayed. They were reported to be nominal. 1.5 Completed FOS/RD 5455 (The Level of Ionization and Chemical Composition of QSO BAL Region Gas) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make ultraviolet observations of quasi-stellar object (QSO) Q1309-0536 which is known to have broad absorption lines (BALs). The onboard target acquisition was successful. The first spectrum was nominal. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5369 (HST Medium Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 made a series of observations of high latitude objects as part of a medium deep sky survey. The observations were taken in parallel with other prime science observations. The observations were executed as scheduled. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5560 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 1) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several internal bias, K-Spot, and flat calibration observations to monitor the CCD camera electronics, the optical alignment, and to check for contamination. The observations were executed as scheduled. The observations remain on Science Tape Recorder #1, and they will be analyzed later. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5629 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Photometric Calibration Monitor 1C: 4-Chip STD in F170W) The WF/PC-2 was used to make photometric calibration observations of the ultraviolet standard star GRW+70D582. The observations were executed as scheduled. The observations remain on Science Tape Recorder #1, and they will be analyzed later. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5370 (HST Medium Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude: CR-SPILT)) The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel with the prime science observations to make high galactic latitude observations as part of a medium-deep sky survey. The observations were executed as scheduled. 1.10 Completed WF/PC-2 5427 (Calibration of Nearby Galaxy Type IA Supernovae as Standard Candles) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of nearby galaxy NGC-4536 as part of an effort to find Cepheids in this galaxy which has produced a Type I supernova. The observations were executed as scheduled. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 9 Successful : 9 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled :11 Successful :11 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: A very quiet operational day was experienced by each subsystem aboard the HST. 3.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 3.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 3.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 4.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END- .
