HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1179 PERIOD COVERED: 0700 EST Daily Status Report as of 194/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Two Sets of FGS 5554 (HIPPARCOS Plate Scale: Cycle 4 Calibration) FGS#3 was used to make astrometric observations of stars HIC52967, H74-897-REF, HIC44494, and H74-1270-REF which were observed by the HIPPARCOS satellite. The astrometric observations were monitored while telemetry was available. A stop flag was seen on observations from targets H74-897-ref, and H74-1270-REF. No other anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5372 (HST Medium Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium: Low Galactic Latitude: C-R SPIT) The WF/PC-2 was used to make low galactic latitude observations taken in parallel with the prime science observations. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5397 (Determination of the Extragalactic Distance Scale: Cycle 4 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of galaxy NGC-7331 to be used in measuring the periods of Cepheid variable stars within the galaxy. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of the nearby active galactic nuclei of MARK1133 and F285. The observations were executed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5370 (HST Medium Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude, C-R-SPILT) The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel with the prime science observations to make high galactic latitude observations as part of a medium-deep sky survey. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed FOC/96 5477 (Spectral Index Mapping and Secular Changes in the Jet of M-87: Cycle 4 High) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make observations of the nucleus, jet, and counter-jet in galaxy M-87. The descision observations were received and displayed in real-time. Offsets were successfully calculated and uplinked to the space craft. It was later noted that the fiducial point on the aperture was slightly offset from the center of the field of view, so a second offset was uplinked to the spacecraft to place the target closer to the center of the field of view. An internal flat calibration image was also made. 1.7 Completed FOS/BL 5095 (Spectra at Lambda <3000 Angstroms for QSOs with Z~2 (FOS 3): Cycle 4) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make ultraviolet spectral observations of the absorption lines and high-ionization emission lines in QSO PKS1559+17. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no problems were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 10 Successful : 10 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled :10 Successful :10 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: None HST subsystem engineers report no anomalous activity during the past operational day. 3.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 3.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 3.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 4.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END- .
