HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1188 PERIOD COVERED: 0700 EST Daily Status Report as of 207/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5562 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 1) The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain a 30-minute long, dark exposure to provide ongoing calibration of the CCD dark current and to monitor and characterize the evolution of hot pixels. The image was received and displayed in the OSS, and it was reported to look okay. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5663 (WF/PC-2 cycle 4: Photometric Calibration Monitor: Fields Part 2) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of globular Cluster NGC-5139 with various filters in order to check the photometric calibration of the WF/PC-2. Ten observations were received and displayed in the OSS. They all were reported to look okay. One data packet was missing the Standard Header Packed (SHP) due to data being split between two tape recorder dumps. 1.3 Completed Three of WF/PC-2 5655 (WF/PC-2 cycle 4 calibration: Internal Monitor-2 - Flats Part 2) The WF/PC-2 was used to make both dark and visual flats. Two dark images were received and displayed. They both were reported to be nominal. The visual flat observation was executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5342 (UV Imaging of Intermediate- Age Magellanic Cloud Clusters) The WF/PC-2 was used to make ultraviolet observations of the star cluster NGC-1856 which is located in the Large Magellanic Cloud t determine the nature of its hot stellar components. Three observations were received and displayed. They were reported to be okay. 1.5 Completed FGS 5338 (Linking the HIPPARCOS to the Extragalactic Reference Frame: NEWHIP-D) The FGSs were used to make astrometric observations of the extra-galactic objects NEWEHIP-62, NEWEGOD-62, and objects 1020-REF, and 1021-REF . These observations are to help tie the HIPPARCOS and extra-galactic reference frames together. The astrometric observations occurred during LOS, and they could not be monitored. No anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5370 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel with the prime science observations to make high galactic latitude observations as part of a medium-deep sky survey. Two observations were received and displayed in the OSS. They both were reported to be okay. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxy 3C252.0 as part of a continuum survey and to study the galaxy's morphology. Three images were received and displayed. They were reported to look okay. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5563 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Photometric Calibration Monitor 1: UV/OPT STD.) The WF/PC-2 was used to make photometric calibration images of ultraviolet standard star GRW+70D582 and monitor the photometric stability and quantum efficiency of the WF/PC-2. Eighteen images were taken and displayed. They all were reported to be okay. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5395 (High Spatial Resolution Imaging of Pre-main Sequence Binary Stars:) The WF/PC-2 was used to make ultraviolet observations of pre-main sequence binary star GG-Tau. Four observations were received and displayed. They all were reported to be okay. 1.10 Completed WF/PC-2 5560 (WF/PC-2 cycle 4 calibration: Internal Monitor. 1) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several internal bias, K-Spot, and flat calibration observations to monitor the CCD camera electronics, the optical alignment, and to check for contamination. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.11 Completed FOS/RD 5451 (The Absorption Cross-sections of Nearby Galaxies) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to observe light from quasi-stellar object 0454+0356, which acts as a probe as it passes through the outer reaches of a nearby galaxy. The binary search was received in real-time, and it looked okay. No anomalies were noted. 1.12 Completed WF/PC-2 5369 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 made a series of observations of high latitude objects as part of a medium deep sky survey. The observations were taken in parallel with other prime science observations. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.13 Completed FOS/RD 5588 (FOS Prism Snapshot Survey) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make a Prism observation of quasi-stellar object 0454+0356 to study its optical to ultraviolet continuum shape. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.14 Completed WF/PC-2 5446 (The Nuclei of Nearby S0 and Spiral Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of galaxy IC-750. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.15 Completed WF/PC-2 5427 (Calibration of Nearby Galaxy Type IA Supernovae as Standard Candles) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of nearby galaxies NGC-4496-A-F and NGC-4536 as part of an effort to find Cepheids in these galaxies which have produced a Type I supernova. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 9 Successful : 9 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled :21 Successful :21 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: Engineering personnel report that all HST onboard subsystems are performing nominally. 3.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 3.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 3.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 4.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
