HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1194 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z Daily Status Report as of 215/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5446 (The Nuclei of Nearby S0 and Spiral Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the core region of galaxy NGC-2090 to provide statistics on the nuclear cups, stellar condensations, and inner stellar disks and dust lanes. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5569 (WF/PC-2 cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Flats) The WF/PC-2 was used to make flat field calibration images with the VIS lamp, and the internal source. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.3 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5427 (Calibration of Nearby Galaxy Type IA Supernovae as Standard Candles) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of nearby galaxy NGC-4536-FI as part of an effort to find Cepheids in this galaxy which has produced a Type I supernova. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 5562 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor 2: Darks) The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain several 30-minute long, dark exposures to provide ongoing calibration of the CCD dark current and to monitor and characterize the evolution of hot pixels. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5560 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 1) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several internal bias, K-Spot, and flat calibration observations to monitor the CCD camera electronics, the optical alignment, and to check for contamination. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed FGS 4884 (High Speed Astrometry: A Search for Planetary Companions to Low Mass Stars) The FGSs were used to make observations of Barnard's star to look for astrometric companions (i.e., a Jupiter-sized companion). The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed FOS/RD 5529 (Cycle 4 FOS Discriminator Test) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to run discriminator tests to determine if the discriminator settings need adjustment from the Cycle 3 Values. Dark, Internal Flat, and Wave calibrations observations were taken. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Complete WF/PC-02 5439 (The Calibration of White Dwarf Distance Scale for Globular Clusters) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of white dwarf WD126+734 to help use the cooling sequence of the white dwarf to determine distances. The observations were executed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.9 Completed FOS/BL/WF/PC-2 5494 (Stellar Winds of Massive Stars in Nearby Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of one bright star M31-OB78-2 in galaxy M-31 to learn more about the stellar wind, mass loss rate, and abundances of the target star. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.10 Completed FOS/RD 5098 (UV Spectra of Low Redshift QSOs: Cycle 4 Observations) The WF/PC-2 was used to make two ultraviolet images of the Low-Z quasi-stellar object PG2302+029 to obtain images and spectra of the surrounding galaxy. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.11 Completed GHRS/1 5595 (GHRS ECH-A Wavelength Monitor: Cycle 4) The High Resolution Spectrograph was used to make wavelength spectral lamp calibration observations to measure the instrumental characteristics of the Echelle-A spectrograph. The observations were received and displayed in the OSS. They were reported to look okay. 1.12 Completed WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structures in Nearby AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of the nearby active galactic nuclei of NGC-3516 to study the interactions between the central engine, the stars, and the interstellar matter in the AGN. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.13 Completed WF/PC-2 5603 (The Stellar Density Distributions in the Centers of Galactic Globulars) A single exposure was made with the WF/PC-2 of the central region in globular cluster M-30 (aka,NGC-7099) to search for cusps in the stellar density distribution. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.14 Completed WF/PC-2 5570 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Earth Flats Large Set) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a set of Earth flat calibration images using different filters in order to construct high quality flat fields of the OTA illumination pattern. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 7 Successful : 7 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 7 Successful : 7 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled :15 Successful :15 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: No anomalies were reported on the spacecraft subsystems during the last 24 hours. 3.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 3.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 3.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 4.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
