HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1199 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z Daily Status Report as of 222/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5560 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 1) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several internal bias, K-Spot, and flat calibration observations to monitor the CCD camera electronics, the optical alignment, and to check for contamination. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxy 3C21.1 as part of a continuum survey and to study the galaxy's morphology. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed Two Sets of FOC/96 5642 (Observations of the Impact of Comet Shoemaker-Levy (1993E) and Jupiter) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make observations of the planet Jupiter to support the Jupiter/ Shoemaker-Levy event. The observations were executed as scheduled. The observations was taken under single star guidance. there may have been some motion around a point centered on the guide star position in FGS #3. 1.4 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5562 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor 3: Darks) The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain several 30-minute long, dark exposures to provide ongoing calibration of the CCD dark current and to monitor and characterize the evolution of hot pixels. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5427 (Calibration of Nearby Galaxy Type IA Supernovae as Standard Candles) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of nearby galaxy NGC-4536-FI as part of an effort to find Cepheids in this galaxy which have produced Type I supernovae. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5397 (Determination of the Extragalactic Distance Scale: Cycle 4 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of galaxy NGC-7331 to be used in measuring the periods of Cepheid variable stars within this galaxy. The observations were completed as planned. A three second long recentering event was reported during the second observation. No other anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5446 (The Nuclei of Nearby S0 and Spiral Galaxies: A PC Snapshot Imaging) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the core region of galaxy NGC-4612 to provide statistics on the nuclear cups, stellar condensations, and inner stellar disks and dust lanes. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed FGS 5333 (Linking the HIPPARCOS to the Extragalactic Reference frame: BR12-23, Part 2) The FGSs were used to make astrometric observations of several stars (i.e., 2005-489IN, 840-REF, 841-REF, INCA221-13, and 842-REF) whose apparent position lies near extragalactic objects. All of these objects have been observed by the HIPPARCOS satellite. The intent is to tie the HIPPARCOS reference frame to the extragalactic reference frame. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5370 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 High, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel with the prime science observations to make high galactic latitude observations as part of a medium-deep sky survey. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.10 Completed WF/PC-2 5571 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Earthflats, Smaller Set) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several ultraviolet and narrow-band filter Earth flat calibration observations to correct for the telescope's illumination pattern. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.11 Completed WF/PC-2 5365 (Probing Excitation Mechanism and Abundances of Young Magellanic Cloud Members) The WF/PC-2 was used to make early acquisition observations of the Large Magellanic Cloud Supernova Remnant (SNR) N132D to study its morphology, and provide information for later FOS spectroscopic studies. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 9 Successful : 9 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled :20 Successful :20 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: No problems were reported with any of the spacecraft's subsystems during the last 24 hours. 3.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 3.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 3.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 4.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
