HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1204 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z Daily Status Report as of 229/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed FOS/BL 5492 (Detection of the Intergalactic Medium Using Gunn-Peterson HEII304A Absorption Lines) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make spectrographic observations of the Quasi-Stellar Object (QSO) 194025 to search for the redshifted line 304A (in absorption) of the He II line. The observations were completed as planned. There was a reported recentering event which lasted for three seconds. No other problems were reported. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5369 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium High Gal. Latitude) The WF/PC-2 made a series of observations of high latitude objects as part of a medium deep sky survey. The observations were taken in parallel with other prime science observations. The observations were completed as scheduled. A recentering event was reported lasting for three seconds. No other anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5446 (The Nuclei of Nearby S0 and Spiral Galaxies: A PC Snapshot Imaging) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the core region of galaxy NGC-1808 to provide statistics on the nuclear cups, stellar condensations, and inner stellar disks and dust lanes. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5560 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 1) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several internal bias, K-Spot, and flat calibration observations to monitor the CCD camera electronics, the optical alignment, and to check for contamination. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed GHRS/2 5405 (The High Mass White Dwarf in HR8210: Cycle 4 High) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make spectrographic observations of the high mass white dwarf star HD204188. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of the nearby active galactic nuclei of F1146 to study the interactions between the centeral engine, the stars, and the interstellar matter in the AGN. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5562 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor 3: Darks) The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain several 30-minute long, dark exposures to provide ongoing calibration of the CCD dark current and to monitor and characterize the evolution of hot pixels. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5325 (The Horizontal Branch of the M-31 Dwarf Spheroidal Companion to Andromeda) The WF/PC-2 was used to make multiple long exposure observations of the dwarf spheroidal companion galaxy to the Andromeda galaxy (aka, M-31). The objective is to construct a color-magnitude diagram of its stellar population. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5571 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Earthflats, Smaller Set) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several ultraviolet and narrow-band filter Earth flat calibration observations to correct for the telescope's illumination pattern. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 4 Successful : 4 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 11 Successful : 11 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled :7 Successful :7 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: For the previous twenty-four hours, HST engineers report no significant anomalous activity in any onboard subsystem. 3.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 3.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 3.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 4.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
