HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1215 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z Daily Status Report as of 244/1200Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5562 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor 3: Darks) The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain several 30-minute long, dark exposures to provide ongoing calibration of the CCD dark current and to monitor and characterize the evolution of hot pixels. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed GHRS/2 5421 (Abundances of Very Heavy Elements in the Early Galaxy: Cycle 4 Medium) The High Resolution spectrograph (Side Two) was used to observe the metal-poor halo star HD122563 to attempt to detect lines of the heavy elements platinum, iridium, bismuth, and osmium. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.3 Completed FOC/96 5740 (FOC Prism Wavelength Calibration: Cycle 4) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make observations of the standard star SAND-3 which is known to be prominent with ultraviolet emission lines to determine the dispersion and offset for prism observations. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5092 (GTO Low Latitude Parallel Program: Cycle 4) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations taken in parallel with the prime science observations. This is part of a survey to take pictures of a large number of fields within 30 degrees of the galactic plane. The observations were completed as planned. One recentering event was reported to have lasted for a period of four seconds. No other anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5655 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 2: Flats Part 2) The WF/PC-2 was used to make visual flat calibration images. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.6 Completed GHRS/2 5650 (UV Spectroscopic Determination of the D/H Ratio Along the Line of Sight) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to observe the stars of Epsilon Indi ( i.e., HD222107) and to study the spectra for lines of Deuterium and Hydrogen. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.7 Completed FOS/RD 5530 (FOS Location of Spectra and Aperture) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make Y-base maps of the FOS detectors using internal lamps. The purpose is to determine the location of the spectra on the diodes. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of the nearby active galactic nuclei of MARK-348, and NGC-7319 to study the interactions between the central engine, the stars, and the interstellar matter in their AGN's. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed FOC/96 5136 (A Color Magnitude Array in the Bulge of M31) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make observations of a region 6.5 arc-minutes from the center of the bulge of galaxy M-31 (Region NGC-224). The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel to observe a region 2 arc-minutes from the center. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.10 Completed WF/PC-2 5401 (Luminosities and Morphologies of a Complete 3CR Sample of Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain images of radio galaxy GSC3411-02, which has a Z near 1.0, and also is a quasar. These observations will be used to determine and compare luminosities, and morphologies in the optical and infrared. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 7 Successful : 7 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 10 Successful : 10 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled :10 Successful :10 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: A quiet operational day was experienced as subsystem engineers report that no significant anomalous activity occurred. 3.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 3.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 3.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 4.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END- C
