HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1222 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z Daily Status Report as of 255/0000Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxy 3C310.0 as part of a continuum survey and to study the galaxy's morphology. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed Two Sets of FOS/RD 5304 (QSO Absorption Selected Galaxies in Field of 3C336: Cycle 4 High) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make observations of 3C336.0 to look for absorption from galaxies which lie along the line-of-sight to the QSOs. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5369 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 made a series of observations of high latitude objects as part of a medium deep sky survey. The observations were taken in parallel with other prime science observations. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5569 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Flats) The WF/PC-2 was used to make flat field calibration images with the VIS lamp, and the internal source. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of the nearby active galactic nuclei of HLF68 to study the interactions between the central engine, the stars, and the interstellar matter in the AGN. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed FOS/RD 5451 (The Absorption Cross-sections of Nearby Galaxies) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to observe light from quasi-stellar object 0318-196, which acts as a probe as it passes through the outer reaches of a nearby galaxy. The observations were executed as planned. However, a FOS Mode 2 target acquisition failure occurred at 255/1719Z. HSTAR 4910 was written. 1.7 Completed FOS/RD 5588 (FOS Prism Snapshot Survey) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make a prism observation of quasi-stellar object 0318-196 to study its optical to ultraviolet continuum shape. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5353 (Low-Mass Binaries in the Hyades: Cycle 4 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of the low-mass, late M-Class dwarf star RHY083 which is located in the Hyades cluster. Some of the companion stars may be brown dwarfs. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.9 Completed FOS/BL 5666 (Optical Counterparts of Radio Pulsars (FOS 38) Carryover Observations) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make observations of the Crab Nebula Pulsar to determine the ultraviolet spectral index for the non-thermal radiation and to look for breaks in the spectrum, as well as possible absorption lines from intervening gas. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 7 Successful : 7 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled :10 Successful :10 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: HST engineers report no anomalous activity in any onboard subsystem. 3.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 3.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 3.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 4.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
