HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1229 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z Daily Status Report as of 265/0000Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5563 (Photometric Standard Stars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make photometric calibration images of ultraviolet standard star GRW+70D582 and to monitor the photometric stability and quantum efficiency of the WF/PC-2. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5446 (Nearby SO and Spiral Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the core region of galaxy NGC-4818 to provide statistics on the nuclear cups, stellar condensations, and inner stellar disks and dust lanes. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5562 (WF/PC-2 Darks)) The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain several 30-minute long, dark exposures to provide ongoing calibration of the CCD dark current and to monitor and characterize the evolution of hot pixels. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed FOS/BL 5581 (Pulsating White Dwarf DN Draconis) The FOS (Blue Side) was used in the rapid mode to cover the 17.1 hour beat period of the pulsating DA white dwarf DN Draconis (aka G226-29) to determine the index of the pulsational mode which will allow for the outer hydrogen layer to be determined. The observations completed nominally with no reported problems. 1.5 Completed FGS 5657 (Duplicity Among Hyades Stars) The FGSs (TRANS-Mode) were used to make astrometric observations of star VA52 located in the Hyades cluster in an attempt to find a close binary. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5092 (GTO Low Latitude Parallels) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations taken in parallel with the prime science observations. This is part of a survey to take pictures of a large number of fields within 30 degrees of the galactic plane. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5571 (Earth Flats, Smaller Set) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several ultraviolet and narrow-band filter Earth flat calibration observations to correct for the telescope's illumination pattern. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.8 Completed GHRS/2 5356 (Observations of Beta Pic) The HRS was used to observe Beta Pic and its disk at various distances from the central star. Both apertures were used to aid in isolating the disk from the star's light. The observations completed nominally with no reported problems. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5202 (The Disk of Beta Pictoris) The WF/PC-2 was used to observe Beta Pictoris (aka HD39060) to image the disk. The image will be saturated, but blooming is expected to be limited to the region within one arcsecond of the center, in the perpendicular direction. Investigators are expected to learn about the radial profile, albedo and temperature of the disk. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 4 Successful : 4 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 11 Successful : 11 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 10 Successful : 10 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: All observatory subsystems are performing nominally. 3.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 3.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 3.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 4.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /CAW -END-
