HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1237 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z Daily Status Report as of 277/0000Z. 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5761 (Narrow Band Imagery of a Gamma Ray Nova) The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain images of a newly discovered gamma ray nova, looking for signs of the high velocity gas that was seen by the VLA. The observation completed nominally with no reported errors. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5562 (Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor 3: Darks) The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain several 30-minute long, dark exposures to provide ongoing calibration of the CCD dark current and to monitor and characterize the evolution of hot pixels. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed FGS 5749 (A Critical Test of the Galactic Escape Velocity at R (Sun)) Fine Guidance Sensor #3 was used to perform POS mode astrometry of a high proper motion star, G16-25, and reference stars, determining parallax and improved proper motion. The parallax will make it possible to determine the distance to the star more accurately, which in turn will lead to an improved estimate of the tangential component of its velocity. The proposal completed with no reported errors. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5370 (Medium Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium High Galactic Latitude - CR - Split) The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel with the prime science observations to make high galactic latitude observations as part of a medium-deep sky survey. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed HRS/2 5360 (Mass Loss and Iron Curtain in Symbiotic Systems) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make observations of symbiotic system PU-VUL. A total of nine observations were monitored in the OSS. No anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of the nearby active galactic nuclei of NGC-3982 to study the interactions between the central engine, the stars, and the interstellar matter in the AGN. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5423 (The Tucana Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxy) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the local group Tucana Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxy. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions :3 Successful :3 Scheduled Reacquisitions :7 Successful :7 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled 12 Successful 12 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: All observatory subsystems are performing nominally. 3.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 3.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 3.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 4.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
