HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1239 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z Daily Status Report as of 279/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5629 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Photometric Calibration Monitor 1C: 4-Chip STD in F170W) The WF/PC-2 was used to make photometric calibration observations of the ultraviolet standard star GRW+70D582. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 5508 (Tracking Features in Titan's Lower Atmosphere and on Its Surface) The WF/PC-2 obtained images of Saturn's moon Titan to look for cloud features, and possibly surface features. The observations completed with no reported errors. 1.3 Completed FGS 5749 (A Critical Test of the Galactic Escape Velocity at R (Sun)) Fine Guidance Sensor #3 was used to perform POS mode astrometry of a high proper motion star, G16-25, and reference stars, determining parallax and improved proper motion. The parallax will make it possible to determine the distance to the star more accurately, which in turn will lead to an improved estimate of the tangential component of its velocity. The proposal completed with no reported errors. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5370 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 High, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel with the prime science observations to make high galactic latitude observations as part of a medium-deep sky survey. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of the nearby active galactic nuclei of IR2302-000 and NGC7213 to study the interactions between the central engine, the stars, and the interstellar matter in their AGNs. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed FOS/RD 5664 (Quasar Absorption Line Survey: Cycle 4 High) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make spectrographic observations of quasi-stellar object PG2302+029 to look for absorption lines due to gas in the intergalactic medium and galactic halos. The telescope lost lock on the guide stars during the onboard target acquisition at 278/1235Z, and the acquisition failed. A subsequent acquisition in the series did succeed, however. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5369 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 made a series of observations of high latitude objects as part of a medium deep sky survey. The observations were taken in parallel with other prime science observations. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5677 (Blue Stragglers in M-80) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of M-80 (aka, NGC-6093) in Scoppius which has a varying central density to measure the density and distribution of blue straggler stars. The proposal completed with no reported errors. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 15 Successful : 15 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: There were no significant problems encountered in any onboard subsystem. 3.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 3.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 3.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 4.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
