HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1242 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z Daily Status Report as of 285/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5560 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 1) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several internal bias, K-Spot, and flat calibration observations to monitor the CCD camera electronics, the optical alignment, and to check for contamination. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5629 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Photometric Calibration Monitor 1C: 4-Chip STD in F170W) The WF/PC-2 was used to make photometric calibration observations of the ultraviolet standard star GRW+70D582. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5562 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor 3: Darks) The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain several 30-minute long, dark exposures to provide ongoing calibration of the CCD dark current and to monitor and characterize the evolution of hot pixels. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed FGS 4884 (High Speed Astrometry: A Search for Astrometric Companions to Low Mass Stars) The FGSs were used to make observations of Barnard's star to look for astrometric companions (i.e., a Jupiter-sized companion). The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Complete Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5329 (Coordinated Observations of Neptune's Aerosols: Temporal, Vertical) The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain images of the planet Neptune to look for cloud features, including the Great Dark Spot, and to look for temporal variations in the features. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.6 Completed FGS 5135 (Extragalactic Astrometry and Astrophysics, FT0-11, Part 1 of Two) The FGSs were used to make astrometric observations to obtain data needed to measure the HIPPARCOS reference frame with respect to the extragalactic reference frame. (Stars: 0153+744IN, 420-REF, 421-REF, 422-REF, INCA221-15) The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5092 (GTO Low Latitude Parallel Program: Cycle 4) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations taken in parallel with the prime science observations. This is part of a survey to take pictures of a large number of fields within 30 degrees of the galactic plane. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5453 (Deep WF Imaging of the Giant Luminous Arc in CL0024+16) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the rich cluster of galaxies known as CL0024+16 which contains several luminous arcs, which are presumably caused by gravitational lensing of a background galaxy. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5571 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Earthflats, Smaller Set) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several ultraviolet and narrow-band filter Earth flat calibration observations to correct for the telescope's illumination pattern. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.10 Completed WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxy 3C459.0 as part of a continuum survey and to study the galaxy's morphology. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.11 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5508 (Tracking Features in Titan's Lower Atmosphere and on Its Surface) The WF/PC-2 obtained images of Saturn's moon Titan to look for cloud features, and possibly surface features. The observations completed with no reported errors. 1.12 Completed GHRS/2 5163 (Transitions in Very Late M Dwarfs Cycle Later Observations) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to obtain the spectra of the M dwarf star GL752B, to look for emission lines due to C II, Si IV, C IV, and N V, produced in the transition region. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 13 Successful : 13 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 7 Successful : 7 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: All HST onboard subsystems are performing nominally. 3.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 3.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 3.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 4.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
